I look at the pedigree first..try to see or remember (photos)as many of the dogs as possible. Sometimes a male will click with most everything..and that stud is a treasure...but each breeding can be totally different.
Rini (Whispersmom) and I tried to reproduce another Jesse...used the same parents 3 more times and no Jesse...nothing even close to him IMO...

I know what you mean, my Charmer is one of 3 full siblings from different litters. When you put the 3 of them together....the only thing that they inheritated is from their sire and dam is their showmanship and topline....each are very different. As a producer my Charmer is passing down the showmanship to his offspring, but all offspring favor their Grandams and Grandsires.

And that is why a Yorkie in the hand is worth all the Yorkies in the bushes..LOL
I learned the hard way early on..let a few go at a time when I had no time to train and thought I could repeat the breeding and get the same puppy..did not always work...

I purchased another male puppy a few months ago to breed Ceeby's girls to since I won't breed him to his daughters of course. I was hoping for small like Ceeby (weighs four on a good day, usually three and a half)since his parents are small altho his lineage is mixed. that puppy now weighs five pounds and at first I was disappointed, then realized that five pounds is alright, that small studs often don't produce small pups. I have had all sizes. so I will be keeping renny to use when he is a little older. he has an awesome pedigree and I would be foolish to throw that away because i don't like his size.
