| Prices to ask for Puppies? Just your opinions I am asking for I know everyone is from diff. states so prices are so much different, but we are having a litter of pups and I just wanted to know if you all thought or the prices we are going to ask for them? $1200 female, $1000 male with limited registration? $300 more and show of wanting to do breed for the right reasons will get you full AKC registration. Our female doesn't have any champs but our male has 21 in his last 5 generations. You can see his pedigree on our website KeenCanines.com. So what do you think? Do you think the price is good...low?..high? What's your opinion breeders?! Thanks!

| I think AKC frowns on selling their reg forms. If your parent dogs have not been tested and cleared for the genetic diseases, eyes, hips PSS, they might be better sold on spay/neuter contracts as pet quality with limited reg.. I read that we can express our opinions but cannot criticize so this is my opinion and understanding Crap, everything I want to write can be mis-construed so I will just say no more on this subject... | Prices as you say, differ from area to area. I see nothing out of line in your prices for a quality pet. If you are asking more for a breed or show prospect that is fine also..but it must be what you say it is..many pay extra for a breed quality and wind up with pet...show is even harder. For that price they should get a one year genetic agaist fatal problems etc. Best wishes. |

| Here is what you might say- with full breeding rights this puppy is priced at $xxxxx If you are wanting a companion he is priced $300.00 ( just a figure) lower beacuse he would have limited registration. I do not care if the baby is $600.00 or $4500.00 it should have a year warranty of genetic/congenital defects. If you are proud of what you have produced you should stand behind it. I a puppy has a congenitall /genetic let the buyer know and place it after it is altered by you. Charge for the spaying and or neutering and shots- be happy the kid has a good home. Not every puppy should be sold at $1,200.00 because the market calls for it. Make sure that you check the quality of your babies to those who are selling in your area. You might be high or low on your price. How many of us actually make a profit on the breeding of our dogs. Darn few ,if you take care of them in the manner that they should be. I breed when I am looking for something for me or when I have a client who wants something from my lines. Wnalegria |

| Of course, all need one year guarantee, no matter the price. We have had a number of posts lately from buyers who are not getting what they were promised. So I feel you must be sure of what quality or size before hand..as much as possible. |

| Man, i think next time i buy a yorkie i'm going out of the area to do it. All the ones listed here are between 1600 and 2300. It's ridiculous. And most of those are one set of shots only. I think, even though it is high, it's a very competitive price, and if you lived where I do, your pups would be sold in a day.

| [QUOTE=whispersmom2]I think AKC frowns on selling their reg forms. QUOTE] What are you talking about? AKC never frowns about selling puppies with AKC paperwork - they wouldn't be around if you could'nt sell them AKC. I'm confused on what you are talking about??

| I think what Whisper means is that the AKC doesnt want you to sell puppies with full registration for a lot more. I saw a Yorkie for sale. It came from two AKC parents and was 2500 without its papers and 5000 with its paper. Which, in turn, means that the papers cost the buyer 2500 dollars or double the price. Ridiculous to charge that much for papers.

| AKC has this thing about sellling one price with papers and one price without. They want ALL AKC pups sold WITH papers..you may give full/limited regs, but if you give NO papers they do not get any money from the new pup buyer. AKC is a profit making organization, so they are interested in the bottom line...they refer to this practice on their web site. |

| I didn't know you could a price a pup before it is born. In the same litter you couls get a show quality $4500 dog and a companion dog with lots of faults worth only $700 maybe. Most breeders I know don't price their puppies until 8 weeks minimum for this reason. I think it's okay to quote a general range. Like females go from $700 to $3000 and males from $600 to $2500 or something, but every puppy is diffferent I thought. Am I wrong? |

| In MD most were charging $1200 to $1500 for pets and $400/$500 for stud service..these are club guidlines, but things can change fast. Show or breed prospects or tinies are not included in this pricing..but there is a fair average price most I know ask in the MD/VA/Dc club. We can price our pups at any time..long before the litter has even been bred...I can say a pet is xxx and show pup is xxx, wee one is xxx...I can also sell a show pup at a pet price, we all have placed some fine pups in wonderful pet homes..I don't lose any sleep at night if a show pup is a pet, in fact I perfer it that way and rarely go the other route. One thing some tend to over look is this..what is show, what is pet, what is breed...you will see some in the ring who are pets and have no business there..you will see some show prospects in the dog park rolling in the grass. When pricing a pup as to quality, qualtiy is in the eye of the pricer...and many are blind as a bat. You have major faults and minor faults. What one breeder thinks will not effect a ring career, another will. The type Yorkie differs from area to area..what they love on the WEST coast, they hate in the TEXAS. What they love in the EAST won't stand a chance in FLORIDA. What I want to say is...there are no rules in the dog world, there are guidelines. These guidelines different among breeders...remember the stud service post..about one pup in litter means a free return service..? No one can force any breeder to abide by guidelines. You can be kicked out of a club, but the only reason I remember is stealing club treasury funds. TYCA has kicked a few out, but it is usually for member disputes, never minor things like selling a pet for too much or too little. |

| Those are minor things, they are corrected by informing the member the club perfers not to use certain advertizing terms. I do not know anyone who advertizes like that,so you? YTCA and regional club bylaws are the same in the club I belong to..ethic's are ethic's. Do you know some mighty fine show breeders do not belong to any clubs? Terri Shumsky was asked to resign her membership in the YTCA. You can not assume a breeder is reputable because they are in a regional or national club. About 5 years ago a client from NY called me and said they wanted to get another pup for her mom. I referred her to NY breeders as I had none at that time. She called back very upset..one YTCA breeders kennel was filthy, dogs were matted, you know the story... the Yorkie she was shown had tartar so heavy on the teeth there was no white shwoing. I told her since the breeder was a club member to make a complaint to YTCA. She did and heard nothing. I called Carl Tetrus (SP) the President. He was gracious and polite, but he was firm...we do not get involved in those areas. Any serious AKC violation like fraud or cruelty is addressed Carl told me. There was a time we could not belong to a forum such as YT...it was frowned on..still is in many circles, but won't get me kicked out. It did get me kicked off The ShowBreeders forum. I was told in plain English..you do not support PET breeders and stay here. Club members are like doctors and lawyers, some ethical, some not..no surprise. |
