People asking me to "stud" Marcel - do I want to get into that???? 1 Attachment(s) Hi Breeders, I get a lot of requests/suggestions to breed Marcel. While I may be willing to get into that following a ton of education, I'm just not sure I want to open that door - for many reasons. Can you provide me w/ some pros/cons? He is currently 8 mths. old, 2.5 pounds. From a champion-infested line, lol. And no, I haven't had him checked for all the usual pre-stud health stuff - I wouldn't do that until I was actually seriously considering going down that road. Here is a pic of him at 7 mths (a bit unkempt!). |
Marcel is so adorable!!!...I can see why someone would what him for stud purposes..... personally I would not open that door...I would just keep Marcel the little, innocent, safe pumpkin he is..... ;) |
Marcel is splendid . If you decide to use him at stud , be very careful of the peoples asking for him . Some will be there only for the $$$$$$ they can have for the pups . In one of my litter , I had 2 males of his size , you should have seen peoples trying to buy them for reproduction . I had them neutered . |
I would have him neutered once he is a little older and a little bigger. An intect dog is hard enough to not have them marking all over the house, they start breeding and it becomes almost impossible. He will move from being your pet to looking for girls. He is an adorable pet but in considering whether to go into breeding with either a male or female, the other question you have to ask yourself is will this dog you have have the potential to improve the breed? Breeding to 'just have puppies' is not the right reason. And yes, as someone else suggested, you are not going to have reputable breeders approaching you. I don't think you would be too willing to add to that scenario. |

also people will come to you that have the most unstandard yorkies for you to stud to because no one else will do it. lastly, the contract......what happens if there are no puppies? or the bitch dies during the whelping?, or the babies are deformed? the owner of the bitch will blame you for everything. you have to make sure you have everything in writing. believe me, if anything goes wrong, the stud owner is always being blamed. |
If I'm not mistaken, you bought him from Kathy Murphy at Gold Dust kennel. Did she give you full or limited registration on him? Anyway, she's the person you should be talking to about using him as a stud dog. Just my $o.o2 Trish |
Oh Marcel is sooo adorable . . I LOVE his picture . . . don't have any comment though :) |
Also, he's so tiny, you would most likely need to use artificial insemination. But, he is adorable. On a cute meter of 1-10, he would be at least 14. LOL Trish |

Lulu sends hugs to Big M. She also said to tell him that while she is up and available for long walks on the beach she is not looking to start a family :p She feels he is a stud muffin even if he loses his two manly bits. |
You're all so wonderful for providing such thoughtful answers! You are all leaning the same way I was/am, not to have him be a stud. While I do appreciate people's suggestions to breed him, and Marcel appreciates the suggestions that he is, indeed, a "stud" - I just don't want to "lose" him as the loving little guy that he is. He has the most tremendous personality - and is SUCH a lovebug, and I'd be devastated if he lost that - for me AND for him. It's not about money, bc I don't think the money is that great anyway - I just kept getting asked and it lead me to think...."well, geez, should I?" - so I wanted the opinions of all the great YT minds. And, I think it's unanimous - keep him precious, not hormone-obsessed and marking. And, he loves him some Lulu - and so appreciates her nod to his studliness, with or without his manbits. NOW, as for cloning.....well......   |
I've heard some people say that their studs DIDN'T change (personality, marking, etc) after breeding, but yeah.....that would be a tough risk to take. But he certainly is ADORABLE! In the extreme! :D |
if you really want to do it i would email a breeder you really respect on here and ask them to rate your marcel to see if he is going to better the breed. and also to see their advice. i love him tho and would take a puppy that looked like him anyday lol! i dont see anything wrong with him but im not a breeder lol! |
I'm glad you are 'just thinking". ceeby is my main man. he did not change in any way at all once i started studing him to my own girls. i brought another little guy in to use later for Ceeby's two girls I held back to breed. He is too young to stud but thinks he knows all and can do all. Well, honey, let me tell you, I have two girls in heat for what seems like forever. War has been going on in my house. Not because of Ceeby but because of the younger (eight months) guy trying to beat up on Ceeby. I take turns crating boys and girls and when it is the boys turn, I have to use separate crates so Renny won't kill Ceeby. |
My Choice~ Was not to because of the fact they would no longer be my innocent little boyz...Charlie marked like crazy right B4 getting neutered, I can't imagine going through that all the time, even on my curtains...I know there is a chance they may not, but I agree, not one for me to take...Good Luck :animal36 |
