Lexie is due July 19th 1 Attachment(s) I just want to share my Lexie's pregnancy. She is due to have a "large" litter on July 19th. She got extremly big, so I had her xrayed on about her 50th day, and the vet tech had me come in a room to look at the picture. I was so surprised, then excited, now I am everything especially worried about my little girl. This is a picture of her on her 49th day. I will continue to post pictures as she gets closer to her due date. Please keep us in your prayers. |
Oh sure... just keep us all hanging :D .... how many pups did you see??? |
I hope you are sitting down...the tech sat me down. We counted for sure 8 little heads and spines, but there was a shadow, so there may be a hider, number nine!!! Lex is doing great!! |
WoW! Going to have a big family~! Praying for you Lexie, that you have a safe and smooth delivery. God Bless you. |
8 is a very very very large litter to have. i don't know what your experience is in breeding but do you understand you will MOST LIKELY need to bottle feed the babies. you need to watch out for ecampsia in the mother. again, i don't know your experience but if you have any questions, you need to ask now before the babies are due. good luck |
Lexie's belly is so big :) I know your working real close with your vet and are getting prepared. Just wanted to say congrats and wish a safe whelp and hope everyone is ok! |
Yes, we know it is a big litter, and I have experience, as Lexie has had a litter of 6 before. She is a very good mother, but yes, I will be supplimenting and watching her and her babies very closely. My vet is helping me, and a good friend that is a breeder also that is nearby and is q here for me. I am concerned about ecampsia, and will watch and ask for help if needed. If any of you have any suggestions for me, I am a a forever learner so please share. Like I shared with a few before today, I hesitated to post this any earlier because of some of the negitive posts of some, but as we get closer I just wanted to share so I can get the support of the positive YT posters!! Thank you all for your help in advance!!! |
I set up the whelping pen and got all the supplies together this afternoon. The towels are there, the aspirator was cleaned as were the scissors. I even cut nine different colors of embroidery string so that I can tell my babies apart. The postal scale has new batteries, and a waste can is nearby. I have the ingredients for whelping pudding, and a can of powdered supplement. I am so excited!! What can I still do?? |
Congratulations!! That is an extremely large litter! Hope everything goes okay. I'll be waiting! :) |
Oh how exciting! That is a large litter, but sounds like you are prepared. Best wishes to you and Lexie. Will be constantly on the look-out for the thread that says she has delivered. |

I had seen your post before this one and it showed her belly... because of your babies belly I started questioning myself whether or not mine was PG. Prior to seeing your baby I was certain. But now... 8 maybe 9 pups... that would explain it. Mine gets its Xray or July 20th. |
WOW.... you may have a record number of yorkie pups there!!! Hope all goes well... and will be looking for your post on the birth very soon.....How big is Lexie (before pregnancy)? |
OMG!! That is ALOT of babies. I remember when my Trixie was pregnant and got HUGE fast. I didn't think that she would make it to the critical 58 days. She fooled us and carried her puppies 66 days!! She had 7 healthy puppies. I didn't have to supplement the babies and Trixie was a fantastic mom. Fellow YT members helped me through the scary waiting time. I wish you and Lexie all the best and hope that everything goes smooth!! |

Because of your post, ( and I thank you for your concern) I have spent the last few hours researching eclampsia in canines. I have checked the food I am feeding Lexie and it's first ingredient is protein (23% and the recommended is 30%), but Lexie is eating 6 to 8 small meals a day. In all the articles I have read (both by breeders and vets) it says that you can over calcium the bitch and that is just as bad as having low calcuim. After all of that here is my question. Would you start giving Lexie (small amounts of cottage cheese and milk once a day? (I would watch her stool to make sure she does not get diarrhea) In another article I read that giving the bitch one "Tums" a day will also help. What do you think? With Yorkies being so small, maybe a half? It's after 1AM here in sunny Florida, so I will call the vet, and a breeder friend that I have for their option too, but I would like to know what you think. Do one, do both, don't do anything until and if she shows signs? I really do thank you for your post. Is there anything else I should watch for now , during whelping, or after the puppies are born? I do have vet, vet tech, and emergency hospital all "on call" for our big event. I just am praying we don't need them!! Thanks again!! |
Well just to tell you all what is going on today. The vet told us a week ago to keep Lexie quiet, don't let her jump, run around..basicly keep her on bed rest. Well today I had to go out for a little this AM and I put Lex in her crate in our bedroom with food and water. When I returned she was so excited to get out of the crate, had eaten and she ran to be with Davie and Harley that were on the porch. They all ran...yes Lex ran outside and caught the first lizard that was not fast enough to get out of her way. She was faster than the other two. She continues to have a wonderful attitude and loving desposition. I am so luck to have her!! |
I wish you the best of luck on your upcoming litter. My Misha is due the 19th also. She is only having 3. I posted her X-rays on another post. This is our first litter so I'm very excited. Maybe we'll be whelping together-miles apart.;) |
I just want all of you to know that Lexie is one of the luckiest yorkies in the world because Charlene is her mom. How do I know this? My baby Brissy is one of the six that Lexie had her last litter. I got to know Charlene very well through our experience and continue to have a wonderful relationship with her. Lexie's and her babies are in excellent and loving hands. |
Oh Les, thank you. We do love our babies don't we?? I can not thank you enough for offering help when Lexie goes into labor. Besides your knowledge, the caring, loving you will be a calming effect on all of us. Keep your phone handy, and I will call at first sign!!:clock: I hope for both of our sakes it is a good time of day!! :xfingers: :mademyday |
