Roxie got eclampsia with her last litter, there were 7 pups. Don't give her calcium suppliments until after the pups come. One tums a day and a bit of cottage cheese with her puppy kibble is good while nursing. Watch her for any signs of weakness or shaking. Make sure there is food and water available to her night and day while she's nursing such a large brood. Tehy go down very quickly with eclampsia so make sure that you can get a hold of your vet 24/7. Have goats milk puppy suppliment or whelping pudding available to her during whelping and some nutracal on hand as well. She'll need all the energy she can get! Good luck with your big litter. Have a beautiful whelping.

Just a couple questions:
1) What is "a bit?" a Tablespoon, 1/2 cup, 1 cup?
2) "Nutracal" where do you buy it? How often do you give to your new Mommy?
Please, if you can think of anything else...please share with me. I will apprecialte it.

So glad to hear that Pippin is doing well.

We have made it though another day. Lexie is panting a lot, and will drink whenever I offer her the bowl of water, but just doesn't like to get up and get it herself sometimes. Lex got me up this morning at 4:30, and I thought things were going to start, but she went outside, we took a small walk, she came back in, ate breakfast, and sprawled out on the tile and went to sleep.....and I was UP!!!! Family was here for dinner and they are all saying she will deliver tonight. Daughter's bf said it was going to be tonight because of the way she was laying with her whole belly on the tile. I just nodded. She has layed that way for the last 2 weeks!!!! LOL I have taken more pictures and will post after they get sized!! Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Our house is just full if anticipation and excitement.

Have been following this post and anxiously awaiting the new babies....Izzie and I are sending positive vibes for an easy delivery with healthy babies and healthy mom.....Thank you for keeping us up to date. Could it be tonight :confused: :confused: :) :) :)

Hi. I'm new to the forum, but wanted to say GOOD LUCK with Lexie's delivery! I too have a Lexi that is due on the same day! Gosh, I am a nervous wreck as this is her first litter and I'm pretty certain, I won't be going thru this again! :D My nerves are shot and have prayed that all goes well until I've got carpet burns on my knees!! hahah;) :eek: I'm a nurse and have assisted in delivery of babies...but never yorkies! GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND I'LL SAY A PRAYER FOR U AND YOUR LEXIE! One more carpet burn won't hurt anything! ;) Hope all goes well. Barb ~:aimeeyork

Wow! What a coincidence. I wish your Lexie a smooth delivery as well. It is a little nerve wracking, I must admit.

Am away this weekend at a softball tournament but checking on Lexie today. Hope all is going well for you and that she will deliver soon. I love free hotel internet.

You can get nutrical at most pet stores. Just ask at the store.

Lexie appreciates all the positive vibes. Day 59 has come and went and nothing. She is still eating, drinking water, and finding it hard to get up from a laying down position. She is panting a lot, but has done that for the past week!! I promise to keep all posted!!!

Barb, this is too wild. Please share what your Lexi looks like and how big. Did you get an xray? If so how many did you count? Lexie was about 6.5 pounds but is now over 11.2 pounds with this litter. Her xray was amaing, and I am going to get a copy of it from the vet if I can. We took pictures of her today and will get sized and posted tomorrow. Her belly is so big, her teats almost touch the ground when she stands up. I am also a little nervous, but have a friend (that by the way is a nurse) coming over to help whenever this starts..day or night. Let's keep in touch. Best wishes to you and I want to hear first thing anyhting happens so we can help long distance!

How did you do at your softball tournament? Well I hope!! I love watching softball, we go to the girls games at the high school where we work as often as we can.

Thanks for all your kind words. I just hope I have it all together. Here are two questions for you:
1) Do you put a heating pad under your new puppies to keep them warm? We do live in Florida, and the puppies will be in a plastic whelping pen with blankets, on tile. We keep our a/c at 80. What do you think? On low?
2)How often do you give Nutrical to whom? The puppies and/or Lexie?

I use a heating pad turned on low and only over to one side so there is room for mama to get off it if she get s too hot. Most of the time, after about the first day i don't use it because neither mama or puppies will stay on it and if I need to, I use a heat lamp. I also have NEVER given Nutracal to a whelping mama and certainly not the puppies. Now, I think there are other breeders on here that might give the nutracal to the mama if her labor stops or something like that. not sure why they would give the nutracal. Different breeders do different things. Goood luck on your whelp.

Good Morning!! I got up this morning and we are all still as we were last night. I was so tired with the kids here, I only checked Lexie about midnight, and we all slept all night. Lex didn't even want to go outside from her cool place under the bed. On hands and knees I saw that she was fine, so I just left her. She came out about 15 minutes later. I think she want me to know we are on HER time schedule now.

Dee, so you NEVER us nutracal? I would like to hear about some other opinions on this product!! Thanks.

I give nutracal to mom while she's whelping a large litter if she seems to be tiring, it gives quick energy. I also will give her whelping pudding or some goat's milk esbilac if she'll drink it. With big litters alot of energy is required and mom must be kept hydrated.

Charlene, I have two tubes of Nutri-Stat. Same stuff, you don't need to buy any, I'll give you one of mine.

Hey Char, I also wanted to say that I gave Nutri-Stat to Bell this time around. I also put a pin drop on the nipples when I fed the babies the first two days. They are strong and healthy, so I think it probably helped. Everyone has their own way of doing things, you just have to sort through all the information and find what helps you.

All it is, is a High Calorie supplement with omega acids, how could this hurt anyone!

So glad to hear your little ones are doing well. You need to post some new pictures. Lex is still hanging in there. She looks so uncomfortable and is sleeping lots. I love just sitting next to her and "feeling" the babies move all around. If how active they are now is any inkling of how they will be when they are born...we need a taller fence!!! I do want to try that nutracal...I have heard and researched it and will I've decided to use it on Lexie and her little ones. Are you going to visit soon? You know you are welcome anytime!! i have never had to give Nutracal but as i pointed out, I know some do. My two girls that have five pups each just popped them out. it was all over for both of them in two or three hours.

I think you may have meant for this to go to ImCKN, but anyway, Nutri-Stat and Nutri-Cal ROCK! They are great and help so much! Putting it on her nipples is a great idea.

Hi Char7..... my friends call me Char too...so we have Yorkies and our name in common!! All is fine here......I am home 24/7 now....have any suggestions on whelping?....filling my time?....I have watched every episode of Law and Order.

My 15 year old daughter plays with a traveling softball team. We went to a NSA college exposure tourney in Warsaw, IN and the girls got put in the U16A bracket. We are actually a U16B team which is lower than A. The girls played awesome and last night at 10Pm our girls came in 1ST Place. We didn't get home until almost 2Am but the right was alot better since we won. I love watching her. I know someday I will really miss it.

I have been thinking about you and Lexi and hope all goes smoothly.
