C-section and STILL PREGNANT
 

This is very strange, Lizzy statred losing her mucus plug on Wed. 6/20 on thurs. it changed to a clear liquid like her water had broke??? Keep "leaking" all day thursday on & off, changing back and forth from mucus to claer, Thurs. went to Vet, she said she was dilating, but not quite ready, possibly in 24 hrs. she would deliver.this would be day 58 on Friday. OK sat. still no signs of being in labor, took her to my regular Vet, he examed her & said the same thing, but that she probaly wouldn't go into labor, soooo C-section, he opened her up and the first puppy out (a little male) had no hair he was pre-mature. he died shortly thereafter. so he closed her back up and said wait until Sat. 6/30 and he would do another C-section (or re-do) if she goes into labor before then he will have to terminate the pregnancy. Please pray that she holds on until then, he said he never heard of this before, and some dogs just need more time Sat. will be 67 days and NO I DID NOT GET MY DAYS MIXED UP. He had never did this before so i guess it's an expertiment. I"m soo scared, i have to go work so she will be staying with the Vet during the day and with me at night. Anyone else ever hear of anything like this?

Wow, sounds to me like he jumped the gun on that one. I've heard of mom miscarrying one pup and carrying the rest to term. That may have been what was going on here. She may not have gone into labor yet because it just wasn't time. Sometimes it's best not to second guess mother nature. I hope she delivers the rest with no trouble. oh wow - poor mommy...I'm not a breeder but have never read that happening before - GOOD LUCK to her !!!

i have never never never heard of opening up a mother then resewing her and state lets wait til later. that is so very odd. never in all my readings and discussions for the last probably 5 years have i ever heard of anything like this.

i will pray pray pray everything turns out well.

i would probably speak with some other vets about what happened b/c that doesn't seem right. (it could be) but i have never heard of a vet doing that.

I am sorry that you lost a puppy. :( I have not head of what your vet is doing. Maybe take her into another trusted vet, just to ease your mind. I wish her and the other puppies well!

I would definately call around to other vets and see if they've ever heard of it before. Sorry about your pup, I hope Momma comes through everything OK. I worry about her uterus if she starts having contractions. Prayers for you all.

This sounds like malpractice to me. It doesn't sound like she was in distress at ALL, and this vet should not be practicing:irk: I'm not even a breeder, but all the stuff I've read over the years, this is just WRONG:( I'm so sorry you lost one puppy:cry: Hopefully the rest will be okay, but I'd definitely find a new vet NOW. JMHO.

Wow, Smooth move on the part of the vet to try and save the lives of the puppies....but at the possible sacrifice of mom. Never heard of it before, I don't see why it shouldn't work.

Poor mom, 2 sections so close together. If this were my beloved pet, I would have had only 1 section and spayed her. Whether they're breeder/pet or pet only it's heartbreaking to make such a hard decision. Praying he'll be able to save both litter and keep mom. Keep us updated, you'll be on our minds,

Iam no breeder, i just wanted to send a prayer to you & your little girl, does seem a bit odd to me though.

i'm sorry but that vet did not know what he was doing. you need to find another vet immediately. i agree, this is malpractice. i just pray that your mama will be alright.

I agree, find another vet, this one was has no idea what he is doing!!:mad:
He shouldn't have even considered a c-section unless she was further along and in a lot of pain/distress.

So sorry about losing your male pup:( I agree with some of the others, I have never heard of such a thing as he has done, I surely hope he keeps a close eye on her for any infection! Praying that the other pups are able to make it!!

What I find most upsetting about this is the fact that my girls have always had a clear/mucuos leak for about a week before welping. This is normal, just a sign that she would be getting close. I wonder why your vet wouldn\'t have known that?

And why didn\'t he do an x-ray or ultrasound before the section? Surely that would have given him an idea as to how far along she was with the pups?
