I agree Alycia, he didn't have a real reason to do the section in the first place. He did as LadyHawk said, jumped the gun. He moved way too early and realizing his mistake, he sewed her back up. What a devestating whelping. Praying for the best for puppies and mom.

It sure sounds fishy to me....

Think maybe I would consult another Vet......then call the "Vet Association", or what ever is is called.....like the AMA for Vets.......I think he screwed up big time and now you lost a little boy........and it sounds like he tried to brush it under the rug.....:thumbdown

I would for SURE call another vet in the morning and get their opinion on this. It doesn't sound right. Usually they want to wait for a c-section to see if they can pass them on their own first as that is the best. I don't see how putting the mother and the puppies through another surgery is very good at all. Would the sleeping drugs be good for the pups twice? I would call!!

I used this site when Diggy was sick...it costs 9 bucks but you get to speak to a vet. They were very helpfula nd everythign she suggested I do was right on for Diggys condition. SHe had his diagnosis (hypo) right also. Id try it if you do not have anyone to consult with until morning when vets open.

I keep checking this thread. Oh I hope everything works out :(

Is this U're and U're Yorkie's 1st litter? My tiffanie just had 6 babies 3 days ago and this is our 2nd litter. Something isn't right, U need to get AWAY from that VET NOW!!! Or U could loose both U're Mommy and babies...How can 1 C-section be good for her, and leaving babies in her...I mean...Can U imagen what shock her body is going through let alone the stress it put on the babies, and another C-Section...NO WAY...I thought Tif might have to have one if she didn't have her babies by tomorrow, so u're vet did check her, well if she wasn't dilated and didn't have a baby in the birth canal, then he should of done what my vet done on Wed. 6/20/07 , looked @ (If he didn't take any of her before then he should of take some xrays) her xrays and said she is thinning out but babies aren't in the birth canal (Can't tell U she won't go tonight, tomorrow or this weekend, NATURE only knows that!) so I perfer to wait until Monday to do one that way I KNOW they will be old enough to survive...No problem with me, came home and she had them Thru. & I had it calacuted that Tif was on her 63rd day on Wed the 20th! And they said for puppies to stay in a mother for 60 days I too said I heard 58 my Vet said NO 60, he said a lady got mad @ him cause he wouldn't do a C-Section on her Yorkies cause SHE thought she was on day 58...UNSAFE he said...So I would FIND another vet even if I had to drive miles for it. There's no way he'd cut my baby open again, U need to get her there soon as possiable to let them see what he's already done so they may have time to help her if she needs some kind of help and what if she goes into labor before??? And U HAVE to take her back to that same VET??? He could KILL her this time!! I don't mean to be so harsh but PLEASE take her somewhere else. Keep her INSIDE no outside it's to hot & humid now, if U have other Yorkie's don't let her play with them, keep her alone, calm and cool...I wouldn't even let a lot of people come visit...She needs 100% peace now. This is just amazing to read about. I've only heard of this happening once with an english bulldog.
There was in that case some un-certainty of the actual date of mating. They preferred to deliver the litter via c sec so they scheduled one at what they believed to be the safe time. It is my understanding that some EB breeders prefer to have c secs? I know nothing about the breed and am going on a conversation in the waiting area at my vet. There was a live pup in the end who thrived. It was about three years ago, and I had never heard of this before.

This thread is scary....It just seems like something is wrong. I pray for mommy and those babies to be okay...PLease let us know how she and her babies are!?!

I do hope you were able to find another vet.

Shame on that vet!!!My vet would of waited for he is a firm believer in them whelping naturaly and trying all possible before a section.
He was way to hasty in his decision.I would find another vet. she will not be able to whelp the pups now she will have to under go another section and I would not feel comfortable with that vet doing it again.The poor mama she is going to be put through the ringer.
If there was no hair on that pup she has a bit of time yet to go.
Hope all is okay with her and you .My prayers are with you and your moma.

I am sorry that you and your prospective mommy have had to endure this!...I would certaintley worry about an infection since mommy has been opened up and then closed back up again...I would advise you to find a vet capable of monitoring the rest of her pregnancy!...I would also recommend that she get daily progesterone testing done to determine when it is safe to take these babies...That should have been done prior to opening her up in the first place!

I am not sure why a vet would do a c-section before the bitch goes into labor , but sometimes a vet might think the breeder knows more than she does. I know that c-sections are planned on several breeds , like Bull Dogs and Pekingese , but even then you would think the vet would want to see some signs of labor just in case the sperm sat there for several days waiting for eggs. But this story is not the worst I have ever heard, one of my friends thought she had the right day and the vet did the section on a Peke bitch and took all the puppies out 5 girls,There was no hair on them , they were delivered at least a week early. all died!!!! She did not count her days right. She was worried and a lot of people gave her bad advice to get the puppies out. I told her to let them cook they will be out when they are ready, but she did not listen and took her to the vet and insisted on a section.

At least this vet closed the bitch back up and maybe saved the other puppies. It is sad and I hope that the other puppies and the mother do well. I have heard of this before, but my vets wants to see them contracting before he will section a bitch.
