| AKC Registration So, I just got a chihuahua and she didnt come with papers at all. I bought her from a family. I was wondering if I was able to get her registered without knowing who her parents were. She is clearly a Chi and she weights 3.5 pounds at a year old. She is also still intact. I dont want to breed her, but I was just interested if it was at all possible. |

Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | if the dog came with no papers there is not way to registered her or him thru AKC...because both parents would have to be registered thru AKC...and the litter that he/she was born in must be registered... There are other clubs that clubs may allow him/her to be registered with Vet reference letter and photos...hope that helps!

| What's your reasoning for wanting papers if you're not going to breed her? To show her in obedience or agility perhaps? If so, you don't need a pedigree to obtain an ILP number. Go to akc.org and surf the site for an ILP application. It'll have the instructions on there like: writing up why you believe her to be a purebred Chihuahua and what pictures you need to submit and at what angles. I'm sure you'll get your ILP number and THEN you can compete! (she'll have to be spayed before the number is given to you though, since you're not interested in breeding, that shouldn't be a problem for you....it'd be the only obstacle I can think of...) |

| By the way, I hope you do show her, we don't have enough of those little guys in the rings outside of conformation!! Big things do come in small packages! |

| if she is just a pet, then you don't need papers. all they are going to do is take your money (i don't mean that in a bad way, they do help some causes ) but if she doesn't need to be registered, then why spend the extra money?
