| New born not gaining weight??? I have a new born 1 week old now and she is not seeming to be gaining weight. She weighted about 3 1/2 oz at birth and now is a week old and she still weights right at 4 oz. She is nursing and has plenty of energy but just not gaining. What gives??? The litter was 3 little girls, But one was born dead and the other I lost 1 day later. I almost lost this one but I was able to get some nutracal into her and she pulled through ok. Just no weight gain. I'm stumped. Any ideas? Mother is fine. Her milk seems to be coming in ok. Not as much as to start with because she had 2 puppies nursing but since she only has 1 now it has slowed down. |

| Have you spoken to the vet about the puppies yet? I think that I would be worried - of course I am a HUGE worrier!! I would talk to the vet first..perhaps they will want you to start help feeding them..with a dropper or tube feeding.

| No have not went to the vet, I figured it was just slow to gain because of the set back at 2 days old. It did gain alittle over the weekend so maybe it will start to gain now. It is nursing harder now. I have been giving it a home made mixture I found on the internet from other breeders and it is doing ok now I hope. |

| it should have doubled it's birthweight at one week. have you checked for cleft palate or some other mouth deformity ? has it been strong enough to nurse hard enough to get the milk to come out/ You are going to have to supplement her to get her strength built up. i hope you are right that she is okay now. keep us updated. |
