Please Read This Before You Post!

Have you all forgotten what it is like to be new at something? Or to not have ALL the answers? Last time I checked with the world not everyone was perfect at everything.

I am so appalled at the responses given in this section I actually feel like I need to hover over the new members who are asking LEGITIMATE questions so they don't get trampled onby some of the members here. I really hate feeling this way and I feel really sorry for the new members who have to read some of the comments here.

This forum is an educational community but how can people learn if they don't ask questions? And how can those questions be answered if most of the responses are full of sarcasm, rudeness, and attitude?

If you are not planning on responding to the poster's questions/comments then move on to another section. If you have the knowledge to reply please do. Even those of us who are not breeders enjoy the opportunity to learn.

   i'm not a breeder nor do i frequent this forum, but i've read about all the horrible things people are saying and if you have nothing nice to say.. don't say it at all.. let's keep YT a welcoming place.. people have to learn SOMEWHERE!! let's be helpful :)

HighlandYorkies 04-30-2007 04:27 PM

Thankyou so much for this post....I've been feeling like this soooo much recently, that I was a wee bit naughty myself a minute ago and pre-empted what was to come by agreeing with someone else who was waiting for it all to start again ! I would like to say I am so sorry to have put that in my post, as I was thinking out loud, and shouldn't have said so.
It's just that I have had defend sooooo many new people lately, and pleaded with them not to leave over such hurtful remarks, and have been at the end of some terrible stuff myself, that I am glad you have said my feelings here, as I know a lot of others are feeling like this everytime we enter this section.....here we go.....another bashing :(
We are all different and all have valuable things to teach eachother without the judgemental bullying that is going on now.

Thanks Kim (simonandhallie) for all you do. I apologize to you for the crap you have to put up with as a mod--especially lately. For what it's worth, I think you and the rest of the Admin team to a fantabulous job at getting rid of the posts that cross the line of what is acceptable and within the limits of what is allowed here.

I know there has been tension lately and I think that ALL who have been involved can make improvements as ALL are responsible for creating it.

Thanks for the great job you do and enduring the headache of trying to keep everyone focused and positive.:)

Thank you so much for that post, Simonandhallie...As you can see I do not post much, I love to come here and I have learned so much from all of you...I truly understand that not everyone will agree, however, some of the comments have been down right rude..So again thanks for all that you do...:thumbs up :thumbs up

Holly_QD 04-30-2007 06:34 PM

Why the rude comments?

I know exactly what you are talking about. Look at this one here. I am not pointing fingers, but I feel so bad for the lady who posted this question.

Thanks for the reminder. I try and stay out of the most of them, but it upsets me when someone ask a question and some of the members dont even try and answer them and then they go and start bashing the person for some thing that dont even have any thing to do with what was asked. and I also feel sorry for the new members who is wondering what the heck is going on and than it makes them scared to ask a question. and they shouldnt feel that way. and then you have the members that keep reminding us that its not bashing. its educational.LOL yeah right. when I was in school , My teachers never talked to me like that. Its always best to say nothing then to hurt other members feelings when their only asking a question. and I thank you again for reminding us from time to time.

psugorilladdr 04-30-2007 08:42 PM

THANKS! I agree. Not everyone is experts, nor does everyone need to breed. But it's not up to people to jump someone who would like to learn more about it, and actually do it.

We used to raise dalmatians and I was looking for a place to get more information on breeding yorkies, because I am new at this breed. We're planning on maybe breeding just once. I was planning on asking questions to the experts, but I never wanted to post question cause I didn't want my bottom chewed off. So I just talk with my vet.

Thanks for this post.

I must say, people are going to do it regardless of if you help them or not, so you might as well share your knowledge.

OH MY GOSH!!! I cannot agree with you 100% more  , I can't stand when members tell newbies, "It's not bashing, you asked a question and we are telling you, and that its educational", are you kidding me  the way they speak to these newbies are just uncalled for. I know one member (not going to say who) is ALWAYS doing it, he/she just thinks they KNOW IT ALL about breeding, this world is too big to be a know it all, nobody NEVER knows it all, there is ALWAYS something new to learn. I thought this is what this YT community is for, for ALL of us to learn together.

Thanks for posting this, I thought I was the only one noticing it, and just figured this is how YT works.

red98vett 05-01-2007 04:23 AM

I wasn't going to post here but my 2 cents are ...there IS a difference in bashing and educating....Since YorkieShadow brought it up ...when some say this section is educational - it IS....but no one ever said being outright rude is ok... at least not that I've ever seen :)

Thanks Simonandhallie for posting this...maybe it will help people really read their posts before hitting submit. I'd hate to see this section change the way the other sections did with all the new rules...

THANKS! I think this section really needed the reminder. I think most of us tend to shy away from the "stuff" that seems to go on in this section.

YorkieShadow 05-01-2007 07:09 AM

Oh I agree, There is a big difference in bashing and educating. And we need to start educating and stop the bashing.
And people need to stick with the question at hand, instead of going way off topic and then trying to make the OP look and feel stupid. I see it so much .... And then someone will come post please dont be rude, Theres always someone that comes on saying oh we are just educating you. Well Im sure they came here to learn thats what most of us are here for. But what does checking out people websites and finding out what size dogs they have or what ever else they can scoop up on the OP . Instead of just answering what The OP had asked. and its seems to be the same members. Its sad that we are all adults yet we cant play nice ,and we have to be reminded and its even sader that the members dont see that they are the ones that needed reminded.
And yes please everyone read the title and the post and think before you post. It will make it a lot easyer for the mods, and everyone else. and it will make the new members feel more at ease, that they can ask a question they might have.

Thank you Kim for reminding us to think before we hit that button.

Does this mean we're all one big happy family again?:D

drawlins27 05-01-2007 09:10 AM

I wasn't sure if I should post my opinion or not since it varies from most here but here goes.

I see a lot of so called breeders come on here and mention that they engage in the most horrible breeding practices. I have seen them talk about breeding their female every cycle, breeding older females, breeding 3 lb females, and the list goes on. I would expect nothing less than for the reputable breeders on here to question these practices. Part of being a reputable breeder is a love for the breed and no one could read these posts without saying something.

A lot of people read these threads, not just breeders but those who are thinking of breeding and those who are looking to buy. They learn from the responses to these posts. What would they learn if a breeder posted that they let their pups go home at 6 weeks (for example) and no one said anything? They would learn that this is a safe and acceptable practice.

To use a recent example, a breeder recently came on here and mentioned that she was going to breed an 8 yr old female who was around 3 lbs. Some of the others on here questioned that and rightly so. I hope that anyone thinking of buying a pup from her reads those posts and thinks twice. Granted some of those posts did get a bit rude but as for those breeders that questioned her methods, I applaud them for it. I hope that the breeder in question will now chose to research her decisions and change her practices because she obviously loves her females very much.

That being said, I do not think that anyone should respond to a post in a rude manner or engage in name calling and I have seen it get out of hand and the OP of a thread becoming defensive. However, I think that the only reason this happens is from the passion that everyone feels about these dogs and the strong emotions that are involved. What I would really hate to see, is this board becoming nothing but a love fest for anyone who just wants to get a male and female together instead of being an educational tool.

Sorry for the long post. I am not a breeder but I did grow up in a breeder home and I have done over 79 rescues. Many of my rescues are the result of an irreputable breeder or one that didn't do their research and I just feel really strongly about the issue of education for the breeder and the buyer.

Tiger's Mom 05-01-2007 09:27 AM

OH am glad you posted this . . . I know many, including myself, cannot openly express what we want to do in fear of being bashed . . .

THANK YOU KIM for your continued wonderful work.

kelkiss5 05-01-2007 09:36 AM

Im glad you posted this Kim. I had started a thread on this topic because I was getting stressed out at the abuse some members were recieving.
Anyway i think its sounds better coming from someone at admin, as members tend to show a lot more respect for yourselfs. (i wonder why. lol)
Hopefully we can all learn to give a lot more hugs instead of punches. lol

Good post, But thats the same thread as what I was referring to.
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=77861

Her Thread was titled Is this Possible?
And only a few answered her question, The rest went to her website and questioned her about it instead.and about her females.
Now if She would of Titled her thread Should I breed and 8 year old female Or should I breed my 3 plus lb Female then I can see why she would of gotton all of the post on that. But she didnt. The people who posted turned her thread into something else then what she asked.
If people dont see the problem with that. Then Its never going to get better. Because right there is half of the problem in these threads. Sticking with the question. The other half is just people being rude.
So One minute people are thanking admin for reminding us, witch they should, but in the same breath they are saying they dont see a problem with what people are posting. So how can we fix some thing when some of the members cant seem to see the problem?
