| Mating? Hi, My female is just over 2 years old and has only had one heat, which was a year ago. This morning however, i noticed she is bleeding, dark red blood. My question is, when will she be most fertile and able to conceive... when should i get her together with the male? Is it 10 days from now, then 12, 14? Thanks much E.D.

| Mating on day 9 and 11 or day 10 and 12 is a good ball park average. What really matters is when your bitch will stand for a male. We usually breed as soon as she is willing and than skip a day before repeating. Your girl will know when the time is right. Her flow will have changed from red to pink or straw colored.

| It can vary from one bitch to another. Dora was almost at the end of her heat seasons when she accepted the male . |

| Roxie was at day 16 before she would stand for a male this time. I'd pretty much given up on it happening.

Have you every used those strips that turn purple when the female is ovulating. I've heard some people have had excellent results with pinpointing the correct time. Mary

| I've never used those high tech things. Would you get them from your vet? How do you like my new avatar? Connor is growing up rather nice if I do say so myself!
