| HELP...She's in Labor!!! Possible Problem! HELP.....I am with a friend who's 2 year old female is having her first litter. A sac presented about 15 minutes ago and she ruptured it. How long can she go before the pup is delivered since the sac is ruptured??? Is she in danger? Thanks!!!!

| the pups should be in the sacks when they are born. do you mean a mucus plug? when it comes out delivery should be done within 24 hours i believe or take to the vet. http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/medica....html#whelping

| Still nothing. She's panting, but not having much as far as contractions. I am fixing to call the vet...just to be sure. I rubbed her belly, had her walk around...but nothing yet.

| The sack will come out before the puppies deliver. The sacks on both of my girls came out and it was a good 2 hours before the first puppy came. I dont think it usually takes that long but it did on mine and they were fine. Is she having contractions and trying to push or is she just relaxing? |

| OK...I called the vet...he says I need to bring her in. I don't know if we're jumping the gun or what. I just don't want to put the pups in jeopardy. My concern is that the sac started to bulge and she popped it. So, the puppy is no longer inside the sac. Being it's her first litter....It's scarey.

| Good luck it is better to be safe than sorry. The initial sac that comes out doesnt have the puppies in it, it is just a sac with lubrication in it. The puppies will come after it pops but it sounds like seeing the vet would be a good idea. Hope all works out with the puppies and the momma. Keep us posted. |

| Ok...here's the update....we got to the vets office and he wanted to do a C-section. I asked him to give her the oxytocin to see if that would help. He said he thought that was wasting time and money, but did it because I wanted to. After about 20 minutes, he said he was going to have to do the section....so we went to leave until it was all done. We were getting in the car, when he came running out to catch us because the first puppy was born. Then, they did an x-ray to see how many others were there and if they were in position. There were 2 more left and they were not in position....so he said he might have to do the section anyway....well, he gave her more oxytocin and she had a second pup which made two girls!!!! There's one left for her to have. He told us we could come home to get a bite to eat since we are only 10 minutes away. I had my children with me and they don't do well on an empty stomach..LOL. So, we are waiting to hear back from the vet. He said since she had 2, then she should be able to do all 3. I'm praying so....I don't want to see her have to go through a section after she's worked so hard to have the others. Keep her and the pups in your prayers...please. Thanks for everything.

| OK...more news....the vet just called...the last pup was delivered, but it had no skull!!!!!....that was the root of the whole labor not progressing right. Has any of you had this happen??? The body was perfect...just no skull. We are off to go get her and the two healthy pups!!! Keep them in your prayers! And again, thanks to all of you who responded. I love YT!!!! I'm addicted to this place...hehehe.
