Is this your sole purpose for wanting to breed? If so, why not just buy your third down the road when you are ready for him/her?

Well I am not wanting to make a career out of it and I honestly don't know enough about any of this to breed. I actually thought if your pup was AKC and you bred to an AKC that was all you needed to do. So obviously I am not breeder material.

You may not be breeder material yet but you could be. After a few years of study you could do something to improve and contribute to the breed. Too many people are just throwing dogs together and adding to the problem of over population. If you're going to do something, strive to do it with excellence!

I am glad I asked the questions because other wise I would have just thought that AKC to AKC was ok. At least now I know I have alot of research to do before I decide to breed.

Make a career out of it...HA...careers usually result in money enough to live off of, right?

I'm sure you are not the only one who has every thought that, nor will you be the last.

I know a guy who just doesn't understand why I won't breed my Bassett to his...they both have papers, afterall.

Seriously, do you know how many people don't even bother to ask questions first? You are on the right track by asking and studying up first and are in a great place to ask for help and be given pointers and shown in the right direction. Do you know of any breeders in the area that would be willing to work with you?
