| what if you're not a breeder(yet ) can you still give your pup (pet) shots? just thought i'd ask cause my cousin has horses and she gives them shots herself. so i was wondering if dog owners could do the same.

| vaccines You can give your dog shots if you want...I suggest it to people with alot of dogs or cats who would not protect them otherwise. With one or two you have the vet to deal with my most cases..they are not always happy with the pet owner. If you go for a yearly check, heartworm test, rabies..what is $15 for a shot to have a good relationship with your vet. You are paying for the office visit and other services anyway... When I place a puppy...say at 12 weeks, I give only one 8 week shot and take the pup to the vet for the 12 week. Many of the new owners vets start pups from shot one if they know the breeder gave them..they say they have no way of knowing if anything is true. I do not like to see my pups subjected to more shots then needed...if I place at 16 weeks, I do the 8 and 12...allowing the vet to do the 16. Just my way of doing it...it all depends on the your vet and how open minded they are... |

| when i got coco, the breeder gave the shots. when i took her to the vet, i had all the info but he wanted to be sure and gave her another shot. the breeder did have the vet do the rabies and i got the cert and charm from the vet which i gave to my vet. my vet does agree for me to do the deworming. they suggested i do it as long as i felt comfortable doing it. that saved me a little bit of money with the puppies.
