this is how i feel as well. eventhough there is a debate, everyone has their good points. this is very very good information here. i am enjoying all of the different points and ideas everyone is putting on these post. just let it keep coming and read and learn.

Char7 - I understand! and partly agree...we should all be nice but I do not think that post was intended to critisize anyone. Just to inform vivi of all the possibilities of "bad things" happening, so she could make the right choices. It did come across a little negative but that is just a part of the bad things that you could go through. I think it was intended to keep vivi and her baby from harm.

I was also told similar by a friend out here who breeds Pug's and I ignored him thinking nothing bad was going to happen to my Trini because I have done my research and she is healthy and all the blood tests, etc. I figured he didn't want to share. But it did happen and we lost 2 pups and my Trini had to be fixed and I could have lost her...

I find breeding very rewarding and am consumed by my fur-family and am home with them almost all the time. My partner calls me the "dog lady" to make fun of me, lol...I am still going to breed because it is a driven passion in me but I understand the risks involved and that they are not 99% of the time just fine...complications are more common with Yorkies for so many reasons. I believe the post you are talking about was only to make you aware of that.

IMO if someone are not planning to breed (new or not) their Yorkie, it is better to enjoy your babies as the wonderful pets, companions and friends they are, thats all. Not to risk their health for one litter...in the end it could cost more than the price of the pup itself.

This forum IS an excellent tool and place to make friends and learn from eachother. I am also kind of new to breeding and I found it is great that there are people on here that give the positive prospective and the downsides because they are just as important. I do not realize all the possibilities of things going wrong, until it happened to me.

If you feel the time is right for you to breed and become a breeder, more power to you, keep studying and driving to your goal because we all start somewhere and I am sure you will find some very supportive people on here and a lot of great advice. But just for one litter IMO it is not worth the risk.

she DID tell her not to breed...

i have to admit that YT is better about people wanting to breed that another forum i used to for chows...i mean they were brutle. but i have seen post on here where some have said don't breed for whatever reason. my thing is everyone starts somewhere. and i'm sure that those that started before the net was created didn't have half the info that we have today. JIMO i don't think its fair to tell anyone not to breed. 1. you don't know how much education they have. 2. you can't predict what will happen. these things don't happen to eveyone or no one would be breeding. i would rather be able to ask questions and get good advice and educate myself than be told flat out DON"T BREED! last time i checked we are all grown and able to make good choices. i don't think anyone on YT want to start a puppy mill. nor do they want to make a buck.

I have to say well said. I just brought Missy to the vet today and found out that she is pregnant, almost 6 weeks. This is my first time breeding and i must say i have,nt left the library reading through books and books on the subject. Im also in contact with the breeder who,s stud dog we used. she has a few irish champions 1 of which i used for Missy. Like yourself i agree that we have to start somwhere ,and i am learning as much as i can. Im sure my knowledge will grow through time just like some of the more experienced breeders in here. But you no im so afraid to ask anything in case i get slated for being inexperienced. I do understand that they are only trying to give advice and explaining some of the terrible things that could happen .But sometimes it can be so severe and feel like bullying that i dont bother. Anyway id just like to say i love it in here, and im always scrolling through all the forums to pick up as much as i can, and the information so far has been very valuble to me. I just hope in the future i feel that i can ask some questions on the breeder site without feeling ascared to do so. As im sure i would get some great advice if i need it.find

I think the mulitply posts at the beginning were a little dramatic, I for one was wanting to slit my wrist .........lol.... just being dramatic!
But all those things can and do happen.
If you decide to breed your girl I hope she has an uneventful easy labor! Many labors do turn out fine, and moms do fine too but knowing what to look for and have that knowledge at the time is invaluable if something turns bad. Having alot of experience, or someone there with it is even better.
