A black and gold is usually soft coated. The standard is dark steel blue and gold.

| ![]() i learn something new every day. kirby's pedigree has black and gold listed on some of the grandsires. i was under the impression that the two colors were standard. i guess that is why all the champions i have seen are blue and gold.

On AKC registration black and gold is a box on the document and all pups are born black and tan....and turn color as they get older. It is my understanding that there have been Black and tan silk coated dogs, but I've never had the pleasure of seeing or feeling such a coat. I've been told once you do that you never forget it..... Dark Steel Blue is what is desired....not always lucky enough to have, Go to YTCA.org....some wonderful reading on the standard and history of the Yorkshire Terrier....
