Having second thoughts, whats the right thing to do? I have a little girl who is 13 weeks old. She has had a deposit on her for a little over a month. Everything seemed okay at first, the home sounded like it would good one but Im having second thoughts now. Its been hard to get a committment on a pick up date from the couple, they seemed to have alot going on, and I have made all the calls. Im used to people calling and asking about their puppy but they never have. Finally I contacted them and told we needed to set up her going home date and they called back two days later, I was already thinking I wanted to not release to them. But they called earlier this week and set up to come today no later then noon they told me. Its about a 4-4 1/2 hr drive for them. I called at 11 am today to see where they were and they hadnt even left yet. They said they would be leaving within the hour they were waiting for a phone call. I wasnt real happy about any of it but I said okay. They had never even bothered to call and say they would be running late. Well at 3 pm I called to see how far in route they were and they still were at home!!!!!! I was told "they were shorted on a paycheck and the boss and hadnt called back" They never even called me again! I asked them what they had bought so far to prepare for the puppy and they hadnt even bought dogfood!I told them to forget it today I had other things to do, Ill call later. They said dont sell the dog to anyone else, we will call next week with some plans.......??????? I just said we will talk about it later and hung up. Im not going to let my babygirl go with them. I wouldnt be able to sleep at night, I just have a terrible feeling about it, after today it sealed it for me for sure. Should I keep a portion of their deposit or should I just return the whole thing and be happy I didnt send my puppy there. Im the one who has changed my mind. |
I think if I was uncompfortable about it then I would just send back the whole deposit and be done with them and find the right loving home she deserves. Good luck with what you decide and I wish the best to you!!! |
i would just give them back their whole deposite and be done with them. you don't want to have to hear anything else from them. i'm sure you'll find her a better home with someone else. |
Thanks Breny:) |
I second that emotion. I would tell the couple that you have decided that you are sending back the deposit and the transaction is "null and void". I don't know if you had a signed contract or anything. You might need to take that into consideration. You'll certainly have no problem selling your puppy to a better qualified buyer. |
Thats what Ill do. I hate to call to tell them I have changed my mind even though they aggravated the hell out of me today. I wont keep any of the deposit just send it all back and find a home I feel comfortable for my puppy. No Contract other then I state I reserve the right to return a deposit for my own reasons. |
I may even be tempted to just send the deposit back without calling if they were that much trouble. I agree with you and don't think I'd want them to have a baby either. Quote:

I would just return the deposit I would just return the deposit and let my spirit be clear. No reason just change of plans like they changed plans. I would avoid altercation with them however, I would copy everything I was sending back to them just to cover myself. I would send it return request the whole nine just to cover me. |
I agree with the others...I would call these people back and tell them that you will be returning their deposit in full. Many times there are reasons why things happen and I think their lack of where this little girl was concerned both before and today was/is a red flag that you still need to find her the perfect forever home. Good luck to you... |

I'm sorry this happened. When sending back the deposit, be sure to send it certified mail. I'd hate for them to try to say they never got it..and try to get you into trouble. Good luck in finding her a fabulous home. Kristie |
Well thanks for the advice! I think I will sleep better now ladies and thats what Im going to do..zzzzzzzzzzz.......sleep Now I hopefully I wont have nightmares.:) |
Your baby is what is important. Mail it all back to her and be done with it. Be grateful you saw their true colors and move on. You are a good breeder!! |
I think you made the right decision! Always go with your gut! |
yes i agree with everyone else send the money back. But please protect yourself make a copy of what ever they sent you is it cash or check or what? also yes send it by certified mail that requires a signature (make sure you asks the post office for the signature one) if the freak out on you just tell them the puppy became ill and you can't sell her and just never answer their phone calls again. Or simply just tell them you guys aren't even responsible enough to set a date to pick her up let alone be able to care for her. People just make me mad!! Good for you though you sound like a great breeder! |
