Not to worry ladies.....it's not well known, since it's a YTCA title and not AKC, unless you've been around for awhile or a member of YTCA you wouldn't know what it stands for. However, it is a title that is sought after. Pastoral Johnny Handsome sired over 60 Champions in the United States alone.

wow, My Louie has 23 ROMs in his pedigree but some of those are the same dog so it isnt really 23, but it looks good on paper.

You only submit paper work when the offspring has completed their Championship. And the original dog or bitch must be owned by a YTCA member

ROM-Register of Merit-A dog or bitch must earn a number of points specified by the YTCA rules, and also meet the numbers of champion and major pointed progeny required by YTCA. The requirements for bitches are less than the requirements for the dogs because males have the opportunity to produce a far larger number of offspring.

ROM/C-designates that the dog has earned an American and a Canadian ROM.

All you have to do is provide copies of Championship Status of the get or produce and their sire and dam. Now again the Sire or Dam must be owned by a YTCA member. There are Merit awards in conformation and OB, TR, AG and Versatile

ROM is a YTCA award. In Our YTCA directory-all code of ethics and code of conduct and all other pertinent information is published there possession.

As stated in the book Only Dogs or Bitches owned and bred by YTCa members will be awarded ROM titles.

It's not on the YTCA site. Since this is a YTCA award, the information pertaining to the award is only available to YTCA members. We as members receive a packet of information when we are accepted into YTCA. It is also published in our directory that we receive annually.

It states
Only Dogs or Bitches owned and/or bred by YTCA members will be awarded ROM titles Dogs must have sired six or more AKC Champions. Bitches must have produced three or more AKC Champions.

Now this does not mean that the Dog of the get or Bitch of the produce must be Champions.

I know they dont have to be a champion to receive the ROM I am just curious why its exclusive to YTCA members only when there are several serious accomplished exhibitors that have bred a multitude of champions that choose not to be a member of the parent club. What makes their dogs/bitches less worthy of the title? I think the accomplishment should be celebrated for breed excellence not exclusive to the parent club members...JMHO
