My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | C-Section - Tomorrow???! WHAT???? This just doesn't sound right to me..... I call my vet to let them know that Meiah's temp dropped to 97.5 this morning, then it was 99.5 this afternoon. I wanted to let them know in case there is an issue and I need to call them. He told the girl to tell me that if she is not pushing by tomorrow to call them and they will probably have to do a C-section. What the??? I said but she's not even in labor yet??? She said that he said since she had the temperature drop it should happen and to call if she's not pushing by tomorrow. My first litter of Chi's I had, the moms temp dropped to 98 twice before the actual labor.!!! This doesn't sound right to me at all....Am I crazy??? What is your take on this??? |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I don't breed but it just seems a bit of a stretch there to me. What if she is just not ready to labour. I could see if she had started and then stopped. Have you used this vet for a long time? It's sad to see how they like to work that money out of your pocket. I guess being xmas he needs some money for last minute gifts. Either way I wish you and your little mamma all the luck and send prayers your way.

What day are you on? I know my vet doesn't schedule a C-section until after the 63rd day. However, her temp has been holding steady below 100. So, that may be his concern, as well as there is only 1 pup. Has the pup been actively moving?

| First of all, I'm not a vet. I do, however, think he may be jumping the gun a little. A major temperature change is only one sign of impending labor. Stay close, sleep on the floor with her if you have to (I did and sooo glad!). She'll let you know if she's in trouble. Have the ER vet number handy just in case it's after hours. But, don't panic. Your dog is like your child and will feed off of your emotions. We'll all pray that everything goes like it should and that we'll be seeing puppy pics soon |

| he is jumping the gun. i would not let him do a section until day 63. Unless she is in labor and is in trouble. Keep monitoring to make sure the puppy is still moving. BUT, if she keeps going past her due date, the placenta could begin to separate and you could lose both of them. kandy's temp went up and down for a week then it went to 98 back up to 99.6 then down to 98 again and we had pups within hours. A phone call to another vet or even a consult for a second opinion is what I would probably do if he is really pushing for a section. |
