Congrats Breny!! It's good that she's resting in between. She can do this for hours. The digging is her way of working out the labor pains. When her tail stiffens and she's seriously bearing down is the time to get ready. This has been my experience as a general rule, but just look for a sac or her water breaking. If this is her first litter, she could go quite awhile. Try to stay calm. (easier said than done..lol) And good luck! Can't wait for an update. :thumbup: Janet

This is her first litter. Contractions are 12:30, 12:35, and 12:42

OMG this is so exciting. I feel like I'm right there, just refreshing the page a lot. Debbie (Dray) had her litter at 3am, 2 girls and 1 boy. Yay I can't wait to hear about the pups :D

There can always be problems with labor.
BUt everything sounds good right now. THe waiting is torture though. Seems like eternity.

HOw long now has your girl been in labor?

DOes she have a time lapse between the contractions you are talking about? A break from contractions at all? Or are they constant like she is trying to poop and cant and walks without rest?

No sak yet and no big bearing down, although I can tell when they hurt, poor baby.

I noticed her panting around 11ish. There are breaks in the contractions...like every 5 -7 minutes then she will contract (give small pushes) for about 5 minutes. She's just laying down between

if you dont see a pup or sak within the next half hour with the contractions being 5 mins apart...I would take her in, its been about an hour so far right? if my memory is correct, this is a singleton right? it may be too large for her to push it through and could be stalled at the bone. Its always best to be safe for both the pup and mom than sorry!

Shes digging and pulling blankets with her teeth. We have a clear slimy discharge...I walked out of the room to use the bathroom and when I returned she greeted me at the door running around. She's back to digging and biting the blankets

Have you tried feathering to see if the pup is in the canal?

Im kinda old school. Everything sounds okay to me, but Im not there so truly I dont know.

If I am there from the very beginning of the labor. I feel I know what is going on. I look for the empty brown/ black bubble and if a puppy is not produced after it appears and bursts within the hour, I think you need a vet most certainly. Labors are different, and its benefical to know the warning signs. It comes with experience and its very hard to give advice if you are not there.

perfectly normal!:D she doesnt want to be away from you, try to keep her in the whelping box when at all possible.

I hear the pups heartbeat in the belly, I hear it best when I put it right between her last two nipples.

No water sak yet, just clear slimy discharge stuck to the vulva hair.

Breny, I won't lie, I am nervous for you! and for your little girl! I am nervous because there is only one pup. I already told you my feelings on it. You have to trust your gut on this. If you have even the slightest concern, call your vet! That is what I would do!

In the meantime we are still here and routing for a successful delivery of a healthy puppy (and I have no idea why, but I keep thinking it's a girl LOLOL)

Put a surgical glove on and coat it with KY Jelly...insert your finger into her vagina, see if you feel a pup there, if not lightly wiggle your finger around, at times this will make the dam get down to business. If she isn't getting down to business soon, contact your vet and speak to him for instructions.

I meant coat a finger with KY Jelly...big difference from coating the whole glove.

A singleton, most times means a VERY well fed puppy in moms belly, being bigger.
This is hard one!! This is moms first litter too.
I dont know your mom Breny, but you do, if you think she is in distress, she probably is. Only you can make that call.......we just want that baby to be a healthy vital one!

I went in to my first knuckle on my pinky...I didn't feel anything. Not sure what I would feel?
(the 1st part where your finger bends just below your nail)
