C-Section - Tomorrow???! WHAT????

This just doesn't sound right to me.....

I call my vet to let them know that Meiah's temp dropped to 97.5 this morning, then it was 99.5 this afternoon. I wanted to let them know in case there is an issue and I need to call them.

He told the girl to tell me that if she is not pushing by tomorrow to call them and they will probably have to do a C-section. What the???

I said but she's not even in labor yet??? She said that he said since she had the temperature drop it should happen and to call if she's not pushing by tomorrow.

My first litter of Chi's I had, the moms temp dropped to 98 twice before the actual labor.!!!

This doesn't sound right to me at all....Am I crazy??? What is your take on this???

Bizzymammabee 12-20-2006 05:26 PM

I don't breed but it just seems a bit of a stretch there to me. What if she is just not ready to labour. I could see if she had started and then stopped.

Have you used this vet for a long time? It's sad to see how they like to work that money out of your pocket. I guess being xmas he needs some money for last minute gifts.

Either way I wish you and your little mamma all the luck and send prayers your way.

What day are you on? I know my vet doesn't schedule a C-section until after the 63rd day.

However, her temp has been holding steady below 100. So, that may be his concern, as well as there is only 1 pup. Has the pup been actively moving?

Breny 12-20-2006 05:27 PM

And then I'm thinking is he money hungry? Or is he trying to avoid a call over the Holidays? I don't get it??? If she isn't in labor...why would you do a c section? Its only day 61 !!!! :mad:

Bizzymammabee 12-20-2006 05:28 PM

Sounds money hungry to me...jmo.

ChestersMom 12-20-2006 05:29 PM

First of all, I'm not a vet. I do, however, think he may be jumping the gun a little. A major temperature change is only one sign of impending labor. Stay close, sleep on the floor with her if you have to (I did and sooo glad!). She'll let you know if she's in trouble. Have the ER vet number handy just in case it's after hours. But, don't panic. Your dog is like your child and will feed off of your emotions. We'll all pray that everything goes like it should and that we'll be seeing puppy pics soon:goodluck:

Is there another Vet you can consult with?

I'll ask again, did you only breed her once? Is this the 61st day of her 1st breeding or her 2nd?

Breny 12-20-2006 05:31 PM

Today is day 61 from the 1st tie, and I feel the baby move everyday.

It just seems kind of wierd that this vet wants to do a C-section without her going into labor...

I counted October 19th as day 1. So today is 61 days from October 19th.

Sugar's Mom 12-20-2006 05:37 PM

he is jumping the gun. i would not let him do a section until day 63. Unless she is in labor and is in trouble. Keep monitoring to make sure the puppy is still moving. BUT, if she keeps going past her due date, the placenta could begin to separate and you could lose both of them. kandy's temp went up and down for a week then it went to 98 back up to 99.6 then down to 98 again and we had pups within hours. A phone call to another vet or even a consult for a second opinion is what I would probably do if he is really pushing for a section.

Actually this is her 62nd day of her 1st breeding with her 63rd day from her last breeding being on December 24th.....It's all dependent on when she conceived.

Breny 12-20-2006 05:42 PM

I just listened to the heartbeat of the pup and its beating as strong and as fast as it was 3 days ago :)

yorkieaddict 12-20-2006 05:45 PM

I would ask him "why" he thinks she needs a c-section now. You certainly have a right to know his reasoning and then decide from there.

Can't wait for the puppy. Good Luck!

I think your vet is jumping the gun. If my girls haven't delivered by their last due date, just to ease my mind, I'll take them in for a vet check. My vet will not perform a c-section until the 67th day, if they haven't gone into labor.

Ok thanks...so now its figuring when she concieved and where we are actually at!

My theory is....she's not stressed....she's resting and doing fine...

I think I should let her labor first before making a decission like that. Temp time is at 10pm. I'm been taking it 10am, 3pm, and 10pm.

I just started taking her temp on Satruday the 16th. Here is what it has been....

Sat = 100.7 am / 99.9 pm
Sun = 99.9am / 99.5pm
Mon = 99.5am / 100.2 pm
Tues = 99.2am / 99.5 afternoon and waiting on the PM temp

AND I didn't speak to him personally. I spoke to the dumb help he has and I had to read the temps to her 3 times! She probably screwed it up telling him too!

So my last due date is Dec 24th then, right?

i hope everything goes well for you and your baby it does sound like he is jumping the gun a little. is this the first time she has been pregnant?

You're doing fine, as long as she's fine, you hear a heartbeat and it's moving....no active hard labor.....all is well.....it's just waiting and that is the hardest. You might want to request that you speak personally to the vet.

Thank you for helping me!

I really need to change vets is what I need. To be honest, I don't have good ones around me. I hate that. I like him but there are things I don't like. He's saved two of my babies so far...

She's in no distress, I just went back for another listen to the heart...still beating!

I travel 26 miles to see my vet......but, he's the best. I've yet to have him misdiagnose. Pretty up on yorkies since he owns one.

Breny 12-20-2006 07:07 PM

Tonights temp is again...99.5
