Maybe he's wanting to do this cause of Christmas being on Monday? I'm sure he will be off the weekend and Christmas day. I'm not a breeder but just looking throug here so don't take anything on this post for granted. Maybe he doesn't want to do emergency c section on Christmas? Dunno, glad you have so much great help that knows what they are doing here. Good luck to mom and pup! |
Definitely wait. |

Just becasue there is only one pup, doesn't mean she won't be able to deliver it herself. We won't know until she tries! |

I hope everything goes well :animal-pa |
its always safest to wait for signs of labor before a c-section...temp is not always reliable. BTW sperm lives at least 24-48 hours there is no need to breed every day twice a day it only lessens the sperm count on the stud. Its best to breed once every other day between the 10th and 16 day of cycle. I hope everything goes well |
Unless you only bread one time it is not possible to tell when your due date is, so no section until labor starts. And maybe no section at all. Why pay all the money unless she can not have the baby. I sold a Champion Pekingese to a lady a few years ago and she bread her, she was due around Christmas she thought and her vet did not want to come in and work over the holiday so he did the section before leaving. There were 5 girls in the litter, all were premature and all died. It was so heart breaking. This same bitch is due again for her second breading on Jan. 3rd and I bet there will be no section until labor starts this time. Some things in life we learn the hard way, this doesn't have to be one of these times. |
Well thats just silly! I dont even mess with temps unless I have to go somewhere and be gone for several hours close to due time. Its not unusual for one of the girls to go over a few days either. I look for the signs of labor and dont put much into the dropped temps. I think I would take my chances and let natural take its course. I would be concerned and really watch her though since its a first time labor and she has only one puppy and they tend to be bigger. When she goes into labor (steady contractions) watch for the black bubble sack, about the size of a quarter/silver dollar(no puppy in it). It should burst within an hour, and a sack with puppy should appear within an hour, tops 1 1/2 hours and that may be pushing it. ( no pup after an hour, I think I would call the vet) After the bubble bursts, if the lightening isnt really good, get a flashlight and watch the vulva very closely often. I have even put on gloves and did a digital exam about an inch into the vagina if I thought a puppy might be in the canal (vulva bulging with zero results in 15 minutes or so) Once I had a puppy come butt first, and the lightening was not bright. Mama keep up hard contractons for about 30 minutes after the sack burst, almost knocking her off her feet. I got a flashlight and looked, there was barely visible a tiny little foot with no sack around it. I had to pull the puppy by finding both feet and legs (not easy to do), he didnt survive because he was out of the sack to long and suffocated. I think if I would have looked closer right away, he would have lived and if the sack wouldnt have burst prematurely, he would have lived too. After pulled his 2 litter mates came quickly. Mom did well after that and checked fine the next day at the vet and the other two pups did too. Just thought I would post that Breny in case you find yourself in a tough situation and alone, with no time at the moment to make a phone call and you need to act right away during the holiday.. |
Thanks everyone for ALL advice. I am open and will listen to ALL. I figure the more I learn the better! I figure the way my luck goes, she's going to hold out for xmas. I really hope not because IF there are complications, who knows if my Vet will be available??? My luck stinks lately! Well I'm still doing temps....99.4 this morning. She threw up and had some diareha. Baby's heartbeat sounds good this morning. |
