Good Luck To All Of You. I Hope The Deliveries Will Be Easy W No Complications. Please All Of You With Your First, Read All You Can And Try And Find A Mentor. We Have Seen On Yt Many Things Go Wrong And Losing The Litter And The Mommies. We Dont Want To See Anything Like This With You. And Of Course, We Will Be Here. Unless It's In The Middle Of The Night.....we Just Slept Thru Someone's Birth Just Recently. And Again, Good Luck

Lisa - I could not agree with you more!!!
I would have lost all but one pup out of three last night if I was not as experienced as I am. Especially that first pup - came breech posterior and upside down - so back feet came first and nost of pup was facing mama's tail instead of stomach. Then the cord was all twisted completely all around the pup. So I had to reach in with my finger into the mom and dislodge an arm that was caught, then twist the pup in the right direction nose facing mom's stomach, and then work with the mom's contracttions to pull the pup out. This was all just for the one pup. Then once out I had to know how to get the fluid out and do CPR. Not easy at all. Does everyone expecting pups know all this? If not you better read up and be prepared. I could have lost this pup too or worse my mom. And the mom is 6 pounds. So it should have been an easy delivery. You always need to be prepared.
Best book I have found is "The Joy of Breeding Your Own Show Dog," by Ann Seranne. This is like my bible for breeding and deliveries. Anne Seranne was one of the owners of the Mayfair yorkies. It even had inforamtion about pedigrees and genetics. Great book!!

We have our first yorkie litter due here around Jan 3rd as well. I can't wait! Living vicariously through everyone til then!!

i just found that book on amazon.com at a great deal. if you just go on the site and look it up you only find the recent edition and it is almost 40.00 but if you look it up through aol search it comes up through amazon.com at almost 4$ used for the first edition which is the same thing without the the new cover, lol. so i got it thanks to your suggestion. thanx. it will be here soon and in time for my babies. :-) so anyone who needs it can find it cheaper that way! everyone everywhere on the internet says it is the book to have. thanx for telling me about it! :-)

Gracie had a litter of 3...2 girls and 1 boy. They are 2 1/2 weeks old and fat and sassy!

Good point!! I didn't have near that much trouble but did have a breech that came without the sac and had to help get him out, luckily he didn't need much more than suctioning and a couple swings and he was good to go. But it could have so easily gone the other way!!

I shaved her belly last night

It is the best!!!! I can't quite get the "listening to heartbeats" down though. My last litter I tried, but could never hear them. At what day can you hear them? I bought a stethoscope and everything just to listen and I guess I didn't use it right!
