It sounds like she is making progress and is not in distress. Keep feathering. |
she is pushing and it is coming close and then end of contraction slipping back in |
is there something we can give her besides nutrical? I started feathering her again now |
How often is she having contractions? The puppy might be breach - feet first delivery is normal and fine, but sometimes the legs are tucked up underneath the belly and they can't be delivered vaginally. From what you are describing she is in active labor and a puppy should be produced within 20 minutes (we're past that). 1 hour in active pushing labor would definitely be tops for me with a Mom so small or sooner if she seems to be in any terrible pain or contractions stop. |
You can give her Karo corn syrup. If you don't have that you can give honey. I really don't like honey because I have read that honey can contain bacteria, but for an adult I would be okay with it just not puppies. |
something is trying to push out but it is going in between the vulva and the tail every time she pushes...then it clams back in a little...you think I should take her to the vet? My gut feeling tells me a few more and she will push it out. Contractions were 5-6 mins now they are 6-7 mins |
she is not pushing the entire contraction now she is just giving little pushes but the puppy is almost there I can feel it now she just want to stay in her box |
I thought they were more like every 3 or 4 minutes so you're probably right she needs just a little more time. It really doesn't sound like she is in any distress - gums still healthy pink? If you don't have any of the "sugars" do you have vanilla ice cream? |
Her daddy just left us to the market to buy karo corn syrup or vanilla ice cream. Something is right there on the inside... |
what would distress signs be |
feathering...almost there...i think i got iyt ow |
it was almost out...maybe next contraction |
the bulge is big and the vulva is smaller i think because it is stretch iver the bulge uh oh another contraction |
pale gums, blackgreen discharge, heavy fresh blood, drop in temperature (usual whelping temperature is about 99 degrees) so anything in the 97s would be unusual at this point, weakness, muscle tremors, or becoming stiff. Are the contractions still 7 minutes apart? I think I would be making plans and getting ready to take her in though. Don't panic, I'm sure everything is fine, but it's always better to be safe. |
Come on Trini, push baby! |
