I am following your story ... have not gotten to the end yet!

One more suggestion on trying to get the weaker puppy to nurse - let the stronger puppy nurse on the nipple for 5 seconds to "prime" the nipple and then remove him and give the same nipple to the weaker one - this will make it easier for him.

He weighs 4.05oz and his brother 4.75oz. He is not cold but colder than his bro who cuddles with mom "better". Brother nurses and then crawls up to her neck and cuddles and she is not concerned about lil bro by her tail.

I will keep "swinging" him before I feed him until the sound goes away or a few days pass...

As for the heat, I have a heating pad under the box to one side, which he and his bro found and they are cuddling ther. Mom is taking a break. :p Next feeding I will try to get it in his mouth the way you suggested. He won't open it for her or for bottle I've been having to manipulate it open.

Awwwwww.....Thank you. I love her and my boy Coco too. I just want everything to be back to "normal" with our doggie family.

I just took mama & litle box out of the box and he just doesnt get it but he is trying realyy hard to find one...

Poor Trini --- she's been thru SO much. Maybe this is a temporary thing.

Wow, those are good weights, I was suspecting 3 oz. at the most. No wonder she had a C-section. I would have thought the x-ray would have showed the need for a C-section. So apparently, her whole 1 pound weight gain was all babies.

As long as the puppies are being kept warm, Mom doesn't need to stay with them all the time (although most do). As long as she is going in enough to nurse then she can come right back out again. She's been through a lot too. How is Mom eating and drinking?

Shis eating okay. She likes me to feed her. I will just work on putting her on the box often.

My story.

The vet's office was horrible! (Overview: they did not tell us they only accept cash, check up to $800, or credit cards (we do not have/use).)

First, they wanted to give her oxytocin to see if she would deliver her babies. She delivered the first one in the first two hours!! They gave her a second and third dose and the second puppy came next but it did not make it. That was around 4am. They sill gave her 1 more shots of oxytocin. The vet decided at around 6-7am he would need to do a c-section. (They would not begin to do her c-section until I had paid them all the money upfront.) I never left the office but daddy did to get the money $2018- Monday 9am in the morning and they told us as long as one of us stayed there they would begin her c-section and the reason they had still not begun was they were prepping the room. Both the puppies left inside her were alive as they did an ultrasound to ckeck. It took daddy about 2-2 1/2 hours to get back with the cash and I found out while she was gone they would not begin operating until they had all the money. Who walks around with $2,000- cash on hand. At first they said 50% but I gave them a check at their max that they accept checks $800- but that was not good enough! Ugh! They let my poor Trini suffer and the puppies suffer until the money got there and they counted it and the receptionist called the doctor in the back to tell him it was okay to begin the surgery. Is this normal?? Seems to me the vet would have taken the best interest of my Trini and her babies before they thought about the money, which was delivered to them in cash...My poor Trini went through so much.:(

That is only half the story. We are thinking to call the Humane Society and see what we can do about the way this popular "veterinary hospital" treated us.

They also had to spay Trini. Well, they didn't have to but they said one of her uterine horns was bruised and they said it might heal, like 50%-50% or they could remove it and should would only have one horn or they could "alter" her. After the vet explained the circumstances of my options to me (over the phone, while Trini was on the surgery table) he wanted an answer right away and I decided to try and save it and not spay her. They sent out another doctor who yelled at me, called me irresponsible and other things that were so rude. She told me trini had a mass, could be cancerous or a cyst and I told her what the vet who was in the surgery room had said to me. She yelled to me all the puppies are dead and I was not making a smart descision to breed her. (they were not) And she yeled like 3 times "all the puppies are dead, whats wrong with you." She was ridiculous and then she told me to make my descision but that she needed to be fixed for her health. I told them to fix her come to find out it was just bruising and she did not need to be fixed! Also, that would have all been avoided if they were prompt and did the c-section. One of the puppies from the c-section has fluid in his lungs still and I do not know how to help him besides swing him and that is not working. They did not tell me this. They said he was "stable". I am scared he will not make it.:(

As I feel sad for what we have lost I am happy for my Trini and the two pups I have here and I will do my best to make them happy and healthy again!

All advice anyone has for me is sooo gretly appreciated and I do not know what I would have done/would do without it.:p

like many others I have been following this thread and just want to commend you on all your hard work you have done for your baby Trini. I know that breeding dogs, especially yorkies, takes a lot of patience and knowledge. But I had never read such a detailed thread on having puppies. I was on pins and needles reading this-I know I would never be able to breed dogs-I would freak out! LOL I know everyone is wishing you the best-congrats on your new puppies! :D

What a horrible experience. I have heard similar stories about these emergency vet clinics, but your story is absolutely heartbreaking. I am so sorry Trini and you and your husband had to endure through all of that. The service is lacking at most of these places and the prices are outrageous. I actually keep two vets, one I prefer, but my old vet is very knowledgeable and is open 24 hours even though she is the only vet on the premises. Her knowledge is great it's just that her prices are a little on the high side, but I can't imagine her ever letting a dog be in pain waiting for the money. I am sure they do have trouble collecting though so I guess I don't have a solution. It probably was best to spay her though. She was just too small to be having puppies and next time wouldn't have been any better.

I hope the little one with respiratory problems is going to make it. I'm not sure what a vet could do for him, but I know there is a medicine called Dopram (I think) that stimulates the part of the brain that controls respiratory function, but I don't think it does anything for fluids in the lungs. He probably will need to be put on Amoxidrops to prevent pneumonia though. If he becomes dehydrated though the vet can give him fluids under the skin which is really helpful for these that aren't eating enough. Test for dehydration by pinching the skin at the scruff of the neck. It should go back in place quickly upon release. If it stays "tented" - pinched up after release he is dehydrated - the longer it stays tented the more severe the dehydration.

What formula are you supplementing with?

Congratulations on the puppies. I can't believe you were treated so harshly, I'm sorry you had to endure that on top of everything else. I wish you all the best with Mama and the little ones.

Maybe a detailed letter to the editor of your local newspaper is in order. Don't know what else you could do. Isn't there some kind of board (like a regular Dr. has) that this treatment can be reported to?
