| Dew claw question Our pups were born with dew claws only on the front feet. How common is this? I thought that they usually had them on all their feet? This was our first litter. And all the dogs we've had in the past have had them removed before we got them or had ones on their back legs. Just curious. thanks.

| Dewclaws You know it's hard to remember but I think my litter had back dew claws. The standard calls for the removal of hind dewclaws if there are any (it's written exactly that way) so I guess some have them and some don't. Your vet should give you a discount. Congrats and goodluck with your new litter! |

| That is interesting. I've never thought about it. Just assumed they had them on all four. |

| It varies from dawg to dawg and from breed to breed. Our Veterinarian usually charges the same for removal of 2 or 4. Teri

| I got charged the same as I would have if they would of had 4. It was only like $28 to have the tails docked and dew claws removed for all 3 of the babies and to have the vet check them over. I didn't think that that was too bad.

| I was just getting ready to start a thread about this! Asking about back dew claws. I just had my first puppy ever born with back dew claws and was going to ask how many babies everyone have had thru time with back dew claws. The boy that had them, was something else, sat up tall at barely 2 weeks and did everything way beyond his age. So leave it to him to be different.........lol! Anyway, its interesting, everything you learn thru time. |
