| One of the pups doesn't seem to be nursing, but he seems healthy...moving around quit a bit. What should I do? Give him some time? |

| I would not be concerned...no doubt one side of the horn had two and now the other two are in the opposite horn...if she is resting and not in distress, wait a bit..she will start again I am sure. |

| No need for concern right now for the next one, give her some time. meanwhile, you can work with the one that's not latching on, place him right up to the nipple, he should start rooting around for it. If not, pry his mouth open an put him on. He'll catch on soon, when he's hungry that's for sure |

| I would call your vet. She may need a shot to help her along.

| I agree, call your vet and see what he wants to do. They may want to give a shot to make the contractions stronger. Or he may want you to wait it out, but nows the time to find out what's next. Glad she's doing well. |

| I had just gotten off the phone with the vet, when to her pen and one pup was already out the next one followed immediately. I was just about to take her to the vet! She's being such a good momma. |

| Keep working with it. Make sure it is warm. Open it's mouth and put it directly on. Congrats on the litter! I'm glad she didn't have to go to the vet!

| Congratulations!!!!! For the one that doesn't want to latch on....sometimes you really have to work at it. First get some milk to come out of a teat. Gently open the pup's mouth (from the sides). Place the pup's mouth over the teat. Do this over and over. Sometimes if the teat is a little flat it is necessary to help maneuver it into a shape appealing to the pup. Before gently prying the mouth open method, I always start with this method... Pups tend to push upward with their muzzles. I place the pup's nose beneath the teat and it should push upward...again...do this over and over. If this doesn't work after you think your back is about to break, stand up, stretch, and try some more. Then if that doesn't work I do the method I mentioned first in this post. I have never had one that didn't latch on eventually. Once they do, you shouldn't have any problems...they know where their next meal comes from . |
