thank you so very much just finished reading this . I had already talked to the breeder I received these dogs from since I myself did not raise them or rear them from my own persoanl built lines . I already choose not to ever breed these two dogs together again ... but I sometimes wonder where all this does come from I have never produced one before but like some few others have seen one . and I did make the misstake of owning a blue born pup a few yrs back and it did just as she states in this article . it was about 8 or 9 months old and lost all its body hair and on its head by this age and then was dead before I knew it and nothing could be done it just died one night I woke to find it dead ... no reason ..... Now had I known this all before hand I would have never purchased this ... and yes I was heart broken he was a very sweet little guy .. but not worth the pain ...
Well I will not offer this pup for sale ..... and I dont beleive in RARE in any breed ..... and I dont believe in t-cup in any breed other then the chihuahua ... never mind I wont go there ....

So sorry about this blue born pup. Yes, in any breeds of dogs, not just YOrkies, the 'rare' colours are usually linked to a problem. Did the breeder you got the parents from ever get a blue born before?

No this was her first litter . she was bred before but did not produce pups and was bred naturally to the same male .Of which I also have . I purchased 4 adult dogs two females that already had litters and the one female in question who did not produce . We AI'd her this time to the male ... But trust me I am not at all proud of this blue born pup .. He will be fixed as soon as possible and remain here his life span whatever that may be . I do not like or want this or the chocolate in my lines Ive worked too hard too long to mess things up now .
but anyway here it is right ughhhhh

If you go to Whispersmoms Photo Album - she has 'Jullian' in there - a Blue Born - full grown -

From what I know - they DO have health issues & their hair breaks easily and doesn't grow - but maybe not 100% of the time.

Your blue puppy is cute. There is someone on here who said they have a blue adult yorkie with no health problems. So i dont think they all have health problems

yes I went to her photo page and saw the blue dog not very much difference in some of the really silver dogs I just hope my GUy will be ok ... keeping fingers crossed .. and payers to the man above to help on this one ..

Did this little one have any white on him or her at all.Maybe he or she will not carry the alopecia gene wich causes their hair to fall out.I found good homes for our two we had and they both have turned black and have full coats so keep your head up and maybe yours will do the same.We started the last one on melatonin for he was loosing his hair at 10 weeks,he was sold to some people that live about an hour away they kept him on that till the bottle was gone and then he grew his black coat in? Cant explain it ,but I do think the more white they have makes a little difference.If they are ALL blue with no other color that is not good for most likely they will have problems.Hopefully yours will be healthy.I sold mine with complete honesty about them,I told them I did not know what would happen,if he would be ill no hair etc...Make sure they are neuterd if you do place them in a home.Does the little blue one have a shiny coat like the black or is it a different texure?

hi thanks for writting he is blue and tan with a very tiny dot of white on his chest a dark steel blue grey color now it is darkening ... was silver when born 3 days ago .. HIs coat is shinny and is very soft just like the black ones ..
GOsh this is giving me some hope here ... I just pray he is ok and not afflicted with hair loss or worst .... But I intend to keep him here and neuter him when he is very young .. I could not place him I dont think knowing he could have problems later on in life I will ask my vet about the meds you mentioned .. and if I see any hair loss with this pup put him on it imediately
MAybe my vet can find out for me if a test can be done with dna to see if he carries the gene or not . I will definitely hvae this matter looked into . Should be a way with all the dna that goes on for our doggies .. I just love him dont get me wrong just not very proud of this color I know partially and even better now what can occur for this little one .

his coat almost looks chocolatein some light wonder why this is .. Im sure it is grey but has this odd hue to it ... might just be my eyes playing tricks on me .

I hope everything works out ok with this little guy! I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers for a good outcome to this.

Mine looked chocolate also,not saying it will be helpful but the first one we had was born with white on the chest and had a shiny coat like the other black ones.The second we had was born with a duller coat was not as shiny.
Rini helped me with the melatonin I believe it was 1/4 tablet am and pm.I have pics of our and will try to post them here for you.

I do have lots more.LOL He was a pretty boy and looks chocolate as he got older,but then came in a black coat! I think they are beautiful myself too bad some of them have problems.

Of course I was there mommy also so I thought they were beautiful no matter what color they were.

I'm afraid that what makes them rare is the fact that few survive for a normal life. I am also afraid that the prize we put on our tinies is encouraging unethical breeders to release puppies to unsuspecting buyers at an earlier than actual age so they can say they are teacups and charge a higher price.

Too many of us are buying the pups as vanity items that become surplus when they grow larger than desired or fail to satisfy the ego boosting attention needed by immature and/or greedy owners.

It is desperately important that we stop breeding for selfish motives. :animal-pa

While this is true for alot of people .. and when someone contacts me with the OH HOW PRETTY THAT DOGGIE IS IN THE WINDOW .. the first thing I tell them is please do some reaseaerch on this breed before buyint especially if theya re a FIRST TIME YORKIE OWNER ... and I DO STRESS that we estimate sizes and we DO NOT NOW NOR EVER WILL TRY BREEDING FOR TINY PUPPIES >>>> I personally do not like the tinies because of the many problems and heart ache that follows with adult life and the longevity there of . I tell allmy buyers ... Get a larger yorkie one that will be 5 to 7 lbs grown .. besides theya re after all ALL YORKIES !!!!!!!!!!

I owned a blue boy onceI bought him thinking this is unusual and I jsut wanted him to have him not for breeding of course I've been in the Yorkeis too long to know this is not standard or good but I wanted him took the best care I knew of at the time . and lost big time heart ache and all but I tried ... he died at a very young age ...
not getting attached to this one .... cant let myself do that ...he is fat and healthy looking and is teh bigger of the two .... which both will stay here ... she will be spayed not watning her to pass on a blue pup .... in the event that could very well happen I will have her spayed right away ..

I would not spay her just do not use the same male that produced this color.Of course the option to do so is up to you.I was told from a reputable breeder to use another male and have not had a blue pup since.

I was thinking of having the female pup spayed . I dont know much about the genetics on what the possibility of a pup from a blue litter **having a blue pup herself *** would be . does anyone have a clue to the answer here ...
I'm Not having the bitch who bred to this male spayed .. Im going to try her again with a different male .. she came from velvet touch kennel/breeder I do not know anything about her have never spoke with her I aquired this female from someone who could not keep her .. so therefore I do not knnow her lines ... maybe someone on here does .... or can shed some light thereabout... anyway ...

Granted, this is just my personal opinion, but figuring out where this is coming from by researching the genetic background of both the mother and the father (which should have been done PRIOR to this breeding, right?) seems like the way to go, NOT just try again and see if you get lucky and can deem the problem fixed.:mad: :thumbdown Say it is the female, and she doesn't produce one with the next litter...you wouldn't know now would you?

I know it sucks when you come to realize that a dog you'd hope would be sound stock just isn't what they need to be....trust me, we recently made a hard decision to spay a female because of this. But IMO, it's the responsible way to go. Surely you understand this having owned and lost a blue before? Why wouldn't you go to any lengths neccessary to keep yourself or someone else from having to go through this again?

I would definatly spay the blue pup.I would not the female that reproduced it.Rini and I have talked about our little one that produced the blue pups and I bred her with a diferent male and no blue pups.Seems to be alot of blue pups showing up these days.Wonder why? Is the gene pool mixed?Lots of questions there unanswerd for me.The male that reproduced the blue with my female has been bred to other females and no blue pup.So it was the two together.
Even though you research the male and female before does not mean you will not get a blue,red,chocolate.There is none of it in my male and females lines.And I ended up with two!Go figure?

As far as genetics, wouldn't both parents have to carry the recessive gene in order for it to turn out in the litter? So why would you spay one and not the other?
