Shedding prenant yorkie Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Kentucky Posts: 1,262 Shedding yorkie!!!!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As you know, Silk is prego and has 15 days to go. i know they shed some hair on their belly but I am finding huge balls of hair everywwhere and when I brush her it is coming off in hunks from all over. Her bed is covered with short hairs from her belly as i expected only not this bad. But as for the hair she is losing from the rest of her body, I didn't think yorkies shedded. My other two aren't shedding but they also don't have the long, thick coat that she has. Any thoughts/ Should I be concerned. She goes to the vet next week for her X-rays so I can ask then. Thanks

| breeding can cause a yorkie to "Blow" their coats...some will thin out as well change color because of hormonal changes. hope this helps

Mine have never lost any hair. They don't even lose the hair around the nipples so I have to cut it off. I think a vet check is in order because sometimes the stress of pregnancy can set something off like mange (present in a dormant state in all dogs, but activated under stress) or thyroid problems.

Thanks She is going for her x-rays next friday so I will ask him. I spoke by phone to a couple of breeders today and they both told me that it is not unusual for females to lose hair and sometimes in chunkss when they are pregnant or lactating.

i hope to at least find out how many babies are in there and if they are turned right but I know they can turn at the last minute. yes, I spoke to karen today about the hair shedding and she said the same thing you did. She is the lady that advertised a bunch of adults on here about a month ago. Guess what!!!!! I was fortunate to be able to purchase two of the gals she went to Judabob's kennel in Florida to purchase. Just barely three years old. I am driving down to Tennessee to pick them up tomorrow. They are blue and gold just like Ceeby. (He has some Judabob also) Anyway, I have worried less about the hair since i got all these great answers today.
