| information on a red leg - Joan Gordon Color & Texture by Joan Gordon Years ago Mrs. Annie Swan, of the Invincia Yorkies, told us to keep one in our breeding program. She said everyone kept a so called "Red". They occasionally appeared from silky coated parents. No one ever showed them, but since they had the ability to return color pattern to it's proper boundaries and the ability to darken the color of a lighter dog when bred to them, they were on occasion bred in. Bred to cottony or wooly texture they usually have little effect. Bred to silk texture they improve color. Bred together they usually produce themselves and occasionally a lovely colored silk dog - but this is the exception. this is a part of a article I have linked on my site about coat and texture... http://dandugmore.netfirms.com/color.html for those who are interested!!

| This is good to know Your letting us in, on one of your secrets, as to why all of your yorkies are so gorgeous . But seriously, this is a great post. I've heard of this before, but no one has ever fully explained it to me. I feel a little wiser about yorkies

| Thanks for the info K...it is very interesting and helpful. Just one of your steps to those beautiful little ones no doubt. I think it is AWESOME that you are so willing to help others learn and I think that alot can be said for a breeder who puts it all out there for everyone to benefit from. I'm sorry if you felt the need to defend or prove yourself to anyone. Just know that we all think you're great! |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I have the Yorkshire Terrier book by Joan Gordon and Bennet. It is very detailed. I have had it for over 30 years. I see her, I know onei s passed away, but I think it's Joan who is still showing her Wildweir dogs. I just saw her last month at a dog show.

| Joan Gordons book is great and a must have by any yorkie breeder or fancier here is a link to the book if anyone is interested http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/087...lance&n=283155 there is an older version as well http://search.barnesandnoble.com/boo...76053606&itm=8 Funny story I would like to share, a person that refutes the "reg legged" theory is a breeder that had never heard of the "Gordon Sisters." She felt compelled to send me a pm stating the white chest marking on my puppies were a major fault and I should never repeat that breeding again. When I shared the marking explaination written by Joan Gordon her remarks were "so what their dead" dismissing their legendary contribution, valued reputation and true dedication to this wonderful breed. Just goes to show you some breeders try to have their "paws" in others business when they, themself know very little!

| Oh, and by the way, I meant to thank you for posting the link to the website. I tried to add it to my favorites but discovered I had already done so. (I think you had posted it once before and I added it then. LOL) But it did remind me that I should read some of the things I have put in my favorites to check into later, and forget to do. |
