I don't know anything about breeding. I just wanted to say that Salem is so cute.

Thanks for the compliments on Salem...he is very cute, but Im prejudice to him!

Whispersmom.........just in theory I think these markings do come from wayyyy back there. This lil guys chest is almost entirely white right now.
Yorkies do have so many origins its hard to even guess.
Just for a little history......he is an AKC reigstered puppy.

maybe its genetic? usually they are born black and tan, you know what, i really dont know!

We have two puppies in our litter right now that have white back feet and huge white star chests. They are adorable! This is the first time we have used this paticular stud and have never had the white feet in the past. So genetics does play a huge part.

My babies with the white on them get beautiful coats,and the white goes away at about 4 months,the ones without a little white don't have near as pretty coats,not as thick and long

That is really interesting and nice to know about the nice coats.
Im working on fine tuning some things in my yorkies such as back to long, shorter legs (I like short legs myself) SHorter snouts, etc, looking for genetic defects......but one thing Im proud of are some really pretty coats from past puppies. The prettiest ones with the white as puppies.......why that would matter who knows...but it tends to be true.
