| the calender will give you some idea what to look from first mating you said Jan 8th hope this helps Canine Pregnancy Calander Pregnancy Calendar for Dogs Date: Fri 17 Feb 2006 Sire: Dam: Breeder: Sun 8 Jan 2006 First day of mating. 48 hours after the first mating the bitch should be mated again. Subsequent matings occurring over a period of time enhance the chances of fertilaziton taking place. The spermatozoa migrate up through the cervix. Mon 9 Jan 2006 Sperm travel searching for a mature ripened eggs. Mon 9 Jan 2006 - Tue 10 Jan 2006 Spermatozoa reach the eggs in the oviducts. Tue 10 Jan 2006 - Wed 11 Jan 2006 Fertilisation occurs in the oviducts which lead from the ovaries to the uterus. Wed 11 Jan 2006 - Fri 13 Jan 2006 Fertilised eggs migrate down the oviducts and into the uterine horns. The migration continue to enable even spacing of the embryos. During this migration the eggs will grow into a blastocystes. Thu 19 Jan 2006 - Sat 21 Jan 2006 The blastocystes implant in the wall of the uterus. Thu 19 Jan 2006 - Thu 2 Feb 2006 The blastocystes will grow into an embryos. During the next two weeks the important organs will develop. Sun 22 Jan 2006 - Sun 29 Jan 2006 Dams nipples begin to pink enlarge. The fur on the dams belly and around the nipples may become thinner. Sat 28 Jan 2006 - Sat 4 Feb 2006 Morning sickness might occur due to hormonal changes or stretching and distension of the uterus. Dam may appear a bit apathetic. She may be off her feed for a while and vomit from time to time. Feeding the dam several meals spaced throughout the day might help. Your veterinarian may want to prescribe a drug to relax the uterus. Thu 2 Feb 2006 - Mon 6 Feb 2006 An experienced person (a breeder or a veterinarian) can tell by careful palpation whether the dam is pregnant. It's now the best time to do this because the embryos are walnut-sized now and easy to count. Sun 5 Feb 2006 Start to increase the dams food ration. Don't overfeed, excessive weight gain should be avoided. The foetuses are now and are fully developed miniature dogs. Sat 11 Feb 2006 The Dams abdomen starts to get larger. Tue 21 Feb 2006 It's very easy now to feel the puppies, counting them might be a bit more difficult. Fri 24 Feb 2006 - Sat 4 Mar 2006 Dam begins to spend a lot more time in self-grooming. Her breasts become even more swollen. She may become a bit restlessness and begin to search for a suitable place to have her puppies. Sun 26 Feb 2006 The dam might lose her appetite during this period. Her abdomen can be crowded with puppies. It is better to feed several smaller meals spaced throughout the day. You can easily detect abdominal movement now. Sun 26 Feb 2006 - Mon 13 Mar 2006 Nipples and vulva should be gently cleaned with warm water, you might want to trim the hairs surrounding the nipples, to allow easier access for the puppies to suck. Wed 8 Mar 2006 - Sat 11 Mar 2006 Milky fluid may be expressed from the nipples. Thu 9 Mar 2006 You might want to start taking the dams rectal temperature each morning and evening. Sun 12 Mar 2006 Twelve to 24 hours before she is due to deliver, the dams rectal temperature may drop from 101 to 98 degrees. Clear discharge from the vulva might occur. Mon 13 Mar 2006 Expected date of whelp. Of course this is just an average. Whelping may take place from the 59th to the 65th day. Puppies born before the 58th day will probably be too young to survive. Thank you so much for posting this. I printed it out and was checking it out with what dates I had on my calendar of changes in Minnie. She has had some of these happenings but not on the same dates as shown. Minnie got sick on morning of Jan 13 and again Jan 14 Minnie stopped eat her dry food on the week of Jan 25 and was eating again on Feb 3rd .But I did put her on Puppy food that day. Her tummy does seem tighter , But Im thinking its because she started eating better . Her titts are the same as they was when she came in heat. no redness no loss of hair around them. But they do stand out where you can see each one .I use to breed Boxers and Pitt bulls I know they are much larger dogs and I have all ways been right on their heat days tied days and due dates With Minnie her heat days even seem off. Her first heat was at 6 months old and she stayed in a lot longer then 22 days and this last heat she didnt hardley bleed. I know they tird Jan 8th and 9th and then again 4 days later. My hubby said he saw Mickey on her again the 19th But does not know if they tied???????????? So she has me all confused. | |

| Well, not a whole lot to g on in these pics so I will hazard a guess. Her nipples do nott look a whole lot different than they would after a previous whelper and that is not always an indicator or yes or no. Her tummy on the sides do lok a bit enlarged. The uterus of a dog is shaped like a Y or V as opposed to the pear-shaped one of hoomans. The hair will not sart to come out around the nipples til at least half way thru pregnancy if that early. I would suggest you take her to your mentor and have her palpate the abdomen. BUT, other wise leave her alone cause you can make the skittish by pushing and poking a lot. Treat her as if you know for sure she is preggers and start the puppy food, added calcium cheese, etc. |
