| puppy dog tails I've always had my pups tails docked (by vet) at 3 days old. Well, my SamSam's pups are 3 days today. Have appt. at 12:30 at vet. The weather here is awful, cold, windy, rain possibly turning to snow. I hate to take my babies out. Question is,what's the latest you dock tails? |

| The latest I've read is five - that's when we had ours done and they did fine. I think 3-5 days is what I have understood to be optimal. Hope this helps. I am sure a more experienced breeder will give some good advice as well!! |

| most vets wont do them over 6 days old...I know of one here that will do them up to 10 days. I put the heat pad inside the crate with mom and the babies...warm up the car first and put a blanket over the crate so no drafts come in during transport. I also have IV bottles that you can put in the mircowave ask your vet for one for the crate on your return home...

| I like to dock tails between 3-5 days old depending on each pups health. If you are going to continue to breed , you might want to learn to do them yourself. Then you don't have to take pups to the vet.

| I do the tails and dewclaws between 3-5 days depending on the health and the size of the puppies. If you have a vet do them, do as Kim says and take them anyway.. Just make sure they are toasty warm...they should be okay if you use a hot water bottle and blankies...and MOM. |
