Size of a puppy? Hi, I am not sure if this is where I should post this...but I figured breeders would know the most about puppy size. I know it is really hard to guess what an adult yorkie would weigh based on puppy size...and I have checked out the chart. I am just wondering the what the overall opinion is. The puppy we are going to get was born on Dec. 23 and at about 5-6 weeks she weighs 1lbs and 10 oz. She is 10inches around the middle and from the base of her neck to the base of her tail she is 7 inches. Her mom weighs 7lbs and her dad weighs 4lbs. In your expert opinions how big do you think she will be. The breeder I am getting her from doesn't think she will be over 5lbs. We were looking for 5-7lbs. According to the growth chart it looks as if she would be at least 6lbs. I am hoping for a bigger rather than smaller yorkie. I know it is like trying to gage children size!?@# Any thoughts?

| I really don't think that anyone can truly judge what a Yorkie will look like/weigh in the future. Stewie was born from 2 Yorkies w/ compact bodies. He is long and has super long legs. His parents were around 7 and 4lbs each. Stewie just had a growth spurt. At 16 weeks he was right at 3lbs. Technically according to the charts, he should have been about 5.5lbs full grown. He's 9lbs now - bigger than both of his parents and a totally different color than them.

Thank you so much for your info. Most of what I have heard is that if someone guesses wrong it is usually because the dog is bigger than expected...not smaller. So I guess I have a good chance at having a larger yorkie! I'll cross my fingers...but I know I will lover her from her nose to her tail...regardless of what is in between!! My husband is going nuts...because he doesn't understand why I am buying all this stuff for a dog I don't have yet. I told him it is just like when I was preg and shopped for all the baby stuff. Luckily I only have to wait a month and not 9 months. Who knows how I made it with my kids!!!

It is very hard to predict any puppies outcome. But I have experienced the opposite. I have had more stay smaller then I would have thought.

Guessing 6 lbs is more like it but.....hahaha........who knows. If your breeder is really experienced and has litters from the pairing before, knows the history of growth pattern of that pairing and previous litters adult weights, she may be really accurate. But as everyone knows who deals with yorkies the formula just doesnt hold true with some. I ve had a tendency to overestimate weights if I do. Puppies grow like weeds then boom the weight slows so much its almost scarey once they leave my home, but then they check out fine. If your puppy is going to hold true to the chart then its 6 lbs or so. Keep your fingers crossed if thats what you profer you just might get that size!
