I understand what you mean, it is hard to put into words what you want to say sometimes. IMO to breed two yorkies to get a choc red or blue is wrong. I do not know that much about partis. They are beautiful dogs though I do know that. But to breed anything other than the standard I feel is wrong. And who knows these reds and choc may have health problems maybe they are just not followed as closely as the blues,Who are known to maybe have health problems. But would be no different for someone to breed two yorkies that are know to have LP or liver shunts for you get alot of health problems with yorkies that are standard . So I guess for me I would have to say there is not much more problems with the blues than any other yorkie with health problems or disorders. And if you look at all the posts on sick and ill etcc, there are MANY that have health problems and are the standard. I just get really defensive over our blue babies they are yorkies non the less and just as loving as all the others. People talk like they are something really bad and I feel they are no different than any other. But I was their mommie and will defend the little misfits. Now I have heard that the all blue pups can really have alot of health problems we had 3 colors on ours white, silver or (blue) and tan so I am thinking the more color you have the better.. I have never seen an all blue pup and ours where silver or bluish when they were born white on the chest and some on the feet then the tan or brown legs. |

Now looking at the picture above it didn't look blue, it looked black. But pictures can sure fool us. |
They are born silver light blue and have tan markings, if you went back to the post my friend has 2 blue pups and look at the pic I posted he is black now full grown. (no 2) If you are talking about the pup pic when he was about 16 weeks his coat was turning a dark brown almost choc color, but still loosing his coat. Havent had a pic sent to me for a while from the owners so do not know what his coat is like right now. But just looking at him you could not really tell a difference in his coat unless you felt it and really looked him over. But o boy did I notice and worry about him, is he going to be healthy will have no hair etc.... The worry is too great to have anything but the standard!!!!!!!!And then you can have stuff with that also but not as great a risk.So if I breed only what should be bred then I do not have to listen in the back of my head my mind saying if I would of could of should of. And to buy one I would !Make sure it is neuterd to not pass on the gene but what is wrong with that? They are loving normal acting yorkies just like yours. Some have problems some do not. And heaven forbid... They are not an abomination ( and I am not saying that is what you meant it is just how people sound when they talk about the blue pups I am just defending again), they are misfits anything that is not the normal is a misfit white ones red ones, choc ones, blue ones , regardless of health condition. |
The pictures of the blue pups that I have seen are completely bluegrey, with no other color on them. These are the ones that lose the hair when they get older if I am right. They do not turn black or brown, or any other color when they grow, they stay the bluegrey. |
Very interesting thread! |
That is what I have heard also that is they are born all blue they will die soon or be in bad shapewhen they get older. Thank god ours had 3 colors on them and they turned out healthy so far. |
1 Attachment(s) Here is a picture I have of the bluegrey yorkie puppy. I don't know if it lived long or not. |
Thanks for all your input on this, I learned a lot from all your comments but---I think this lady was meaning the colour of the coat, and trying to describe it to me. Cassie, I got from her and she was black and tan, but the mom and dad are different this time. I have seen them a year and half ago when I got Cassie but cannot remember just exactly what their coat looks like. From what I remamber it was tan or gold face with kinda of a silver body. I know she has had them for awhile. They are not going to be the black and tan ones. So when they change colour it will be more tan and silver blue. Thats what I thought?? I looked up Yorkie on the web and it said there is two distinct colours for yorkies???? |
On page 2 of the gallery link for my younguns and friends, you can see a pic of an adult Blue Born female. She was blue with a wee bit of tan on her face but you had to really look close to see it. By the time she was 8 weeks, I had taken her from her breeder to place as a rescue with a friend. I wanted to watch her grow. As a matter of fact, I contacted Cher for info. A long time breeder and show person told me about her article that had been printed years ago.. The girl's name is Jillian and she is one of the blue borns who had the skin problems..She lost her coat and had no hair on her ears. I had to slather her with sunscreen even on non-sunny days. Her back also was easily sunburned so a 30-45 sunscreen was used on her.. She had a problem with having enough calcium in her body and broke easily as a baby but as far as I know, has not had that problem as adult..Her coat was sparse, wiry, short and felt like 300 grade steel wool. The fringe or tan/gold hair grew normally and has to be clipped.. BTW, her dam and sire were both well-pedigreed and from a well-known show kennel. That is not to say they were at fault and they did not produce her in her kennel. 011011's puppy was very blue at birth and he did lose his blue coat somewhat.. AND, I love him to death even though I NEVER saw him in person, but I met the most wonderful little guy (he is my penpal that I mention on here) who is holding the puppy. He is my Tiger and I am his Granma Teddy.. I digress. I have seen one other blue born or choc-it was really hard to tell. In some light he looked choc; others he looked blue.. Cher, I look forward to reading your article with its up-dates and I thank you for your expertise... |
Thanks for that pic I have never seen one that was all blue. They look like weimers! Poor things to have to grow up with that. I have seen a blue doberman in a pic. Now RIni with Jillian was she their first litter out of the male and female or had they had a few litters before the blue came? |
You can have a blue born weimers also. My mom had a weimer and is working on getting a new one and is friends with a lady that has show weimers. and these blue born weimers have similar problems to yorkies, they don't lose there hair, but they have a lot of health problems. However, the coloring is so intense that some breeders are actually trying to breed for this color in weimers too. |
Tammy, it was a first mating between the parents. Both had been bred before to other partners. Jillian was a product of an out-studding and because the person arranging the stud service did not know pedigrees, she bred back into a line that has been known to throw blues when the right 2 dogs are bred. Not "right" but the dogs that produce that color are bred to each other.. |
