YorkieTalk Newbie! | Help will breeding change his attitude? Hey I haven't used this much. I know this might not be the greatest category for this question but I didn't see one that fit. I have a three year old full breed Yorkie. Someone I know wants to have puppies, but my dog has never breed before. I was wondering will this change the way he acts and his attitude? I am afraid it will and I love the way he acts so I would really like some advice. Some of my questions are Change his attitude? Make him hump things? Around girl dogs make him want to breed? And anything else with breeding for the first time Thank you so much!

| Yes. Also only perfect examples of the breed should be bred. You also should know his lines pretty far back to make sure he does not have illnesses that run in them. You also need to have genetic testing done by specialist to make sure he doesn't have any genetic illnesses he could pass on. He also needs to be AKC. There are also stds that need to be checked for. I personally would neuter him and just love him as a pet.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I suggest you go to Debbie Jensen's website, very good infor on breeding. It is likely your boy will mark more especially around strange houses and also when a female is in your house. If he doesn't hump now, there is a likelihood that this behaviour will increase; again especially around females. Some dogs need assistance with the actual breeding, you will need another person to know what they are doing here. Both dogs should be checked for Brucellosis prior to breeding! And finally if you don't want to breed your dog don't! It truly should not be done on someone elses' whim or desire. You are at least ethically responsible if not contractually responsible for the litter borne, and unless you know the lines well and have done all the requisite health testing, do you really want to risk puppies being born with genetic health problems; of which Yorkies are prone to more than a few of them? Finally I would not stud my dog out to just any-one, nor would I do so without a stud contract. And the first thing to check in your documentation is do you have full registration, or a limited one? Limited one means you are not allowed to breed this dog! If your breeder has given you full rights for breeding, then the first person I would go to for advice on this particular situation is your breeder.

| Answering your questions: 1) Yes 2) Yes 3) He will become very Alpha, especially if other females are around regardless if they are in season... 4) Will cause him to mark his territory....everything in and around his home and space.... |
