| Do you do your own Tail Docking? ok... I have wondered this for a while.... How many of you do your own Tail Docking??? My grandmother did her own poodles, so I was not totally shocked when my girlfriend told me that she did her pups on her own. Her vet had let her assist many times and then had her do it on her own. I assisted a couple of times for her with Yorkie pups, then I docked a litter of 4 yorkie poos for her friend as she was out of town when they hit day 3. I was like... what? And she said that I would be fine, to just trust what I know.... It was nerve wracking at first, but really very easy. The first one was the worst.... 2,3, and 4 were a breeze. How many of you do it??

| I've watched it being done, but I don't have the heart (or stomach) to do it myself. Good luck to you.

| I had my vet do dock their tails and remove their dew claws. I trust her alot more than I trust myself when it comes to that! Plus, it gives her the chance to give them that initial look at them to see if there might be any health issues I may have overlooked. |

| I do it myself. I purely hate it to tell the truth.....but I do it. I was trained by my vet. Instead of bringing them in and exposing them to everything, I was encouraged to do it myself. I improvise a bit, I dont do the bone crusher instrument.......UGH!! I simply use sterilized new scissors with quick stop on hand. There is nothing pretty or pleasant about it EVER. It never gets good for me. After its done Im always so glad. 3 to 5 days after birth is the best time, their nervous system is not fully developed and they feel less, or so they say. ..............those puppies know what a circumcised lil boy feels for sure!!!!! |

And I have never had one to bleed by doing this way. Never. (I do apply a tiny dab of "vet bond" glue to the tip though) | |
