I liked Rose's thoughts. Just because I have a piano does not make me a pianist. IMHO you are a breeder when you mate two animals of wat ever type. You don't call yourself a parent until you have that child that you cherish and love. The prep time that you do before you become a breeder will determine in most how good of a breeder you will be. The true test is if you did your homework and learned as much as you could and will follow the standard. |
breeders One thing important to remember...I have met 5 year breeders who were more informed then ones who have bred for 25..honestly. I was talking to a guy who has bred for 10 yrs and never heard of an inguinal hernia. Another breeder forum has a breeder of about 5 yrs who asked me what brucellois was...do you know how hard it is not to give them a kick in the butt? |
I am finding the same thing and some of the topics that are raised and there are breeders who aren't even aware of the issue...it shocks me and it happens all the time. There is so much to learn just as a yorkie owner much less a breeder. That is why this forum and others like it are so important as long as the info disseminated is accurate. EVEN VETS know very little most times and that is really scary!! If you can't trust or rely on your breeder or your vet....it's just YOU!!! |
There are many people that has breed two dogs and say they are a breeder. To me a breeder is someone that has Studied and learned as much as they can and has had more then one litter. I have breed Boxers and Pittbulls for many many years but I have never had a litter of Yorkies. One can study and learn all they can and still forget a lot, I keep copy's of every thing I learn and have folders on it all, So I can go back and refresh my memory when needed. There is no way I can remember every thing. I think there are many people that have had one litter and consider their self's as breeders, to me they are not breeders. They are someone that is learning to breed. |
