| Do I change her food at this point? Yesterday I recieved a new foster. Not a yorkie but I would appreciate the opinion of more experienced breeders. Sasha is a 21 month old miniature poodle, a little on the small side at around 8-9 lbs. She is pregnant and our vet doesn't want to spay her at this stage. She's anywhere from 49-56 days but from the looks of her abdomen I think it's closer to 49 days. The puppies can't be palpated at this time and I haven't seen any fetal movement but to be honest I haven"t done much with her yet. I think she needs to trust me more before I start poking at her. We'll be getting an x-ray on monday or tuesday. I also have the father, who is also a miniature poodle right around her size. I've done a few litters for the rescue and am comfortable with the whelping, especially since a very experienced vet tech lives next door and the vet is only 3 miles away. I am concerned about her eating. The previous owner was feeding her beneful with some pet fresh. I usually switch mine pregnant dogs to puppy food but have been taught to change it back on day 50-53. She's not eating that well yet but that's pretty common with new dogs in a new home so is now a good time to switch her ar do you think it's too much stress. Also I'm concerned because we really don't know the true due date and at this point how many puppies. Do you think an ultrasound would be more beneficial? Usually I just get an x-ray. |

| First of all I pray all goes well with the whelping. I would start changing her slowly over the a good quality puppy food. I always keep my pregnant mommas on puppy food throughout their whole pregnancy. You should start feeling some movement about a week before the pups are due. I would go with the x-ray but having it done when she is further along. I know that might be difficult since you don't know her exact due date. Please let us know how it goes.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | If you take her for an ultrasound now you will know how many pups there is and a close estimation of her whelping date. I usually wait until day 59 for an X-ray. |

| I did take her in for an x-ray today. The vet estimates about 2 more weeks and 3 possibly 4 puppies. At this point the bones are calcified so he says shes at least 45 days. We'll get another next week. Right now the puppies can easily fit the pelvic ring but well know more with the next x-ray. I did start her on the royal canin for pregnant and lactating dogs, can't remember the exact name but Sasha's sleeping on my chest right now and I don't want to move her. She is rather picky and will eat it if my 3 year old hand feeds it but not too much on her own. Her stomach seems rather sensitive right now and she will vomit after she eats so I've startied feeding her 3 times a day with dry always available. I bought her some cottage cheese but haven't given it to her. I thought that might be too much calcium at this point. |

| Delivered 4 beautiful pups today. 1 cocoa brown female and another cocoa brown mail, a black male and an apricot male. Surprised because mom is cream colored and dad is gray. Mom did great and is a wonderful mom. I'm a little concerned because the first has a stump of a tail, triangular in shape but seems to have no problem with movement of the back legs. The next one has a little right angle at the tip but also moves well. He's the runt at 5 ounces and had trouble figuring out how to nurse but with a little help is now doing great. I'll have the vet check out everything on thursday when we go to get the dewclaws and tails done. Mom is finally eating. I had given her 1/2 a can of RC mother/baby mousse after the 2n'd puppy and after the 4th. A few hours after I was feeding her small amounts and was scooping it out and she just took it from the spoon. Guess she was tired of waiting. |
