I am not a fan of undocked tails. An undocked tail really changes the outline and balance of a Yorkie. Too short of a docked tail will do the same..most pet breeders dock too short.

My feelings exactly! "Optional" would appeal to me best, rather than MORE intrusive laws and regulations and restrictions, prompted by animal rights activists who are not actually knowledgable of the procedures they are "against", and passed into law by legislators who have NO idea of what they are doing or why, just responding to lobbyist with the deepest pockets and largest bankrolls.

I feel that you have people waiting for these lil ones it should really be up to them it's like selling a house you feel that it's worth this but the economy says something else and with that said you have to say do you want to sell or not

I don't mind a full tail if it is on a dog with a correct tail set. Here are some pictures of some beautiful European dogs with full tails:

If they are willing to pay for the pup up front, I will leave a tail undocked. I have NEVER had anyone ask me to leave the tail undocked.,,,they have asked if I docked tails and when I said yes, they were thrilled. Likewise and on the other hand, if you are selling a house without a swimming pool, people that want a swimming pool will go look at houses that have pools....I am certainly not so desperate to sell that I will dig a pool for them, especially when 90% of the buyers do not want a pool!!!

While not in favor of having government get involved and legislating against docking, I'm happy to see the general public stepping up and asking the tails be left on.
Few people have ever declined to purchase one of my puppies over tail length. Some have converted to wanting the full tail after actually seeing it.

As newish owners (since November) of one of magicgenies Cloverhill Yorkies (our first Yorkie) - have to say that her beautiful full tail is one of Shelby's most gorgeous features (but then she has so many :-) . Although I think we had assumed the tail would be docked if we bought from a breeder we were happy we had the option to get an undocked puppy - it just feels right.... So hopefully attitudes are changing somewhat among new buyers in the US

I agree with this.

The vet who did ours wanted to go shorter than what I wanted. She kept trying to go right where the color changed and I kept saying 1/2" on the black side of that change...... She didn't understand why. I didn't want the short. I wanted medium. I still think she went a little shorter than what I wanted.

That's great that you had the choice and chose not to dock.

Breeders choice is the option I still feel is right. CKC will change all standards to allow for this for every single breed. There is already one province in Canada where it is illegal to crop or dock.

I agree full heartily, it should be an option and the government should not have to make laws about it

Well, it wasn't quite that - breeder chose not to dock and we were/are very happy with that - as newbies, we didn't even think that would be an option. (I doubt we would have done a full prepay without meeting the puppy just to get an undocked one, which is apparently what one frequently has to do?).

I love a full tail, and much prefer it but I agree it should be breeders choice. I don't think the govt. should get involved. I prefer a Doberman with cropped ears and docked tail personally, and they're probably the only breed that I do.

Gracie's tail is the best and it is hilarious to watch her chase it too. :)
