Itīs just the way they work.I guess you could say that our vets and breeders (this island is TINY, we dont have many) are more prone to let nature take itīs course and poke around as little as possible...infact, I think my vet thinks Iīm crazy because I wanted Bella to have "prenatal checkups" lol. |
[quote=jaydoubledub;4319906]So, the vet was happy with her checkup today. Her temp was confirmed at 98.8 degress, from last night. Shy has been fine and her vet let me know to stay close by. No motorcycle stuff for me for awhile. I asked about getting an xray or ultrasound, but, she told me that there's either 2 or 4 pups to come and that I didn't need it. Her last three visits we went over birthing procedures and signs of distress. I have her vet's number on standby, fuel in the truck, her whelping box is the way she wants it, and her puppy kisses are still all over my nose and in my ears! I won't lie, I'm very nervous. I just smile, nuzzle up to her, and pet her gently. Dash seems to feel left out, so he gets a little conned food mixed in with his dry food too, twice a day. Just FYI....You get xrays to verify two things. #1...How many babies are there, so you do think you have 2-4 babies ??? and after delivering 4 babies, she rests for over an hour....and she has an undelivered baby in there that your vet did not palpate, and the puppy dies and them om gets into major distress... MOST IMPORTANTLY, you do an xray to determine HOW BIG the babies are....is she going to be able to even HAVE them naturally? Will they fit thru her birth canal???? Good luck with your whelp....hopefully your momma will be one of the minority of Yorkies and not have opne bit of trouble delivering her babies! If she is unable to pass those babies because they are too big, and you end up with a huge emergency c-section bill, dead babies, or even a dead momma, perhaps you can educate your vet that is more confident is guessinf what is going on inside that female, than getting the facts clearly visualized. |
Fast update 2 born so far one more en route as soon as momma is ready. Wish her luck! |
YAY! Good job so far! |
#3 needed help but he/she made it out. Was backwards and sac broke a few mins before emerging. So far #1= 3.9oz, #2=4.6oz, #3=pending. mom is cleaning 3 and working on umbilical and placenta. I'm taking them in this morning to get ultrasound and/or xray to make sure all is out. |

You really need to post pics :D |
Congratulations! Hope all are and stay well! |
I waited and it felt like a fourth was still in her. Yep! 3.9oz 4.6oz 4.6oz 4.3oz The last boy scared me because the placenta from number 3 was still in and coming with him ALONG with his placenta. Looked like a bad hemorrhoid :) I had to push one back in and luckily it was his. #3's placenta and the last boy came together. Once she cleaned him enough she pulled out his placenta. Everything in her lady parts are soft and squishy now. Just in case, I'm still taking them in in a few hours to get the clean bill of health. |
wow, well done! I think taking them to be checked out is wise! |
Soooo sleepy! Anyways, yes I'll post some pics as soon as I can. So far they're doing well. None of them will bottle feed though. They've all eaten from Shy. Oh and all are girls! Blam! A lot of bows! Lol |
thank heaven for little girls. kiss your baby Shy and good job to both of you. |

Sending good thoughts and prayers for Shy and her babies. |
I am glad the whelping went well. If mom has plenty of milk there should be no need to bottle feed the pups. Make sure you get mom to eat lots of food so she can produce a lot of milk. She will need to be fed around 4 times a day. Her last feeding is very important and it should be right before you go to bed. About the placentas, it is very common for two placentas to come out with a pup if the placentas did not come with the previous pup. You don't push it back in, you need to get it out and dispose of it. I try not to let my moms eat to many placentas because it can cause them to get diarrhea. If your mom ate all four then expect her to have some very black icky poop for awhile. |
I'm so glad things went so smoothly for you. You deserve an award for checking in with us between births! Thanks for keeping us updated & I'll sure be looking forward to pictures! |
Yay congrats!!! :) I hope all are healthy and I hope the vet appt goes okay! Please update us and post pictures :D |
