I LOVE LOVE LOVE to show and it was a huge part of my life...When I was younger, I was lucky enough to find people who'd let me show their dogs in juniors and showed all kinds of breeds..but the breeding part has never really interested me....even when I worked for a breeder. I think puppies are cute, but I am not puppy crazy(I've had one puppy my whole life. the rest were all adults when I got them)...and I don't think I could ever do what breeders do...especially now that I am adult and these are my kids. I've grown soft over the years and don't think I have the stomach or nerves for breeding. When I worked for a vet clinic, I witnessed all kinds of procedures done~euthanasia, rabies tests, surgery and autopsies....and now, since these are my kids, my dog gets a flea or a tummy ache and I'm a mess. I really have to give props to the professional breeders out there. Being that I've worked for one and I grew up playing in the show world, I know a little of what you guys go through and it's a lot of dedication, work, money and knowledge. And you've got to have a certain mindset to do be able to go through what you go through and still keep doing it. People who think it's going to be easy money are nuts. The only way it's easy money is if you don't love or care about your dogs enough to do it right. They literally are just an ATM to the people. I always laugh when people ask me why I spayed/ neutered my dogs and they tell me how much money I could have made of puppies because my dogs are so cute....but it just shows how ignorant the general population is when it comes to breeding. |
Hi folks! Shy and her three pretty girls are doing great so far! She and her pups have been mostly with me since birthing. Occasionally, Dash's (the stud) dad will take them, when I have duty. They've all had two check-ups since she gave birth with good outcomes. I haven't docked their tails. I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Although I know they'd sell for more and potential owners would probably prefer it, but, I am not in it for the money nor to even please the status quo of how Americans prefer to have Yorkshire Terriers. I really couldn't bring myself to do it. I've noticed the girls trying, sometimes successfully, crawling out of their box and wandering. I'm thinking it may be due to getting hungry when Shy isn't there. So, what I'll do is let Shy out of the closet and relax around for 1-2 hours, then back to them. She DOES go and check on them when she's out though. Hmmm, I can't think of anything else yet. I'll post up some pics here... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=130480 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=130479 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=130478 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=130476 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=130475 http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ctureid=130474 |
I totally forgot to mention their weights! 16.3oz 16.8oz aaaaandd.. 17.4oz! Just under three weeks and they've all over tripled their weight and nearly quadrupled! |
Thanks so much for the update. So glad that all are well:) BTW... so glad that you didn't dock their tails. My Bailey had his tail already docked when I went looking for him and wished that he remained as he was born... but not my choice. I think that it gives them more character without the docking:) Of course, having said that, Bailey and all YT's are equally wonderful additions to all of us. They add that special something to our lives and, at times, have us worried sick when they are not well. Cheers! |

Even at this young age the pups will try their best to leave the nesting area and bedding to relive themselves. It may be time to move onto a larger area that will give them the freedom to move around more freely. |
They are adorable and all looks so healthy. I like full tails and wish my Tiki had one. Hers was docked too short, and is such a stub I leave the hair on it long so she'll have something to wag. It is like a pom pom, haha. |

But acording to my vet, they´re big girls lol. Oh, and all 3 now have their eyes open too :cheer::cheer::cheer: (I havent docked my girls either, my vet doesnt wont do it (animal cruelty issue) and I didnt want to anyway) :D |

I don't blame you for not docking the tails... I don't think I could have done that myself.... So glad the family is doing well. Can't wait to watch them grow. |
here's a little video clip that I made while I was changing their bedding earlier today.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH0p...e_gdata_player |

Shy is great Mom and very attentive to her babies. |
They are so adorable, loved watching them waddle around squeeking. Are their eyes open yet? Too cute. |
