3 Attachment(s) Hey everyone! Thanks for the concern about Mila! We had a rough time in the beginning, but she is wonderful and doing a great job with her pup (female) Ollie. M has become quite the attentive and nurturing little Momma. She is doing a wonderful job with sweet Ollie. O is growing at an incredible speed. Despite it still being too early to determine what she was mixed with, we have concerns that M's previous owners' speculations it was the family Beagle were incorrect. She looks nothing like M's previous litter and is tipping the scales today at 1lb 5oz!! :eek::eek::eek: We are all adjusting nicely to having sweet Ollie around and are thinking about even keeping her for ourselves so that they may stay together. We are having M spayed so that my poor girl won't have to experience this again, but in the mean time, we are very grateful for this new little pup! 1st pic was taken day before yesterday, she is now 1lb 5oz. 2nd pic was day after she was born. 3rd pic was how we found them sleeping this morning!! |
So happy to hear that all is well. Thank you for the update and the darling pictures of mommie Mila and her big girl Ollie. I know it is a pain sometimes to take and post pics, but we sure love seeing them. Most of all, thank you for adopting Mila and having her spayed. May you both have a long happy life together. |
That's one rolly polly pup! It will be interesting to see how she looks as she grows up. |
2 Attachment(s) Yes, she's our own Rollie Pollie Ollie ;-) I really can't even picture what she's going to end up looking like! Its a shame she only had the one, but I don't know if she could have kept up with nursing more than one this size! |

I need some input on Mila if someone wouldn't mind. She has had two semi runny and one truly runny bowels today and I am uncertain if this is normal. From what I have read, I am getting mixed answers. She ate normal this morning (too quickly though as it seemed she shoveled it down), a little after my lunch break, and again this evening a little. She is drinking plenty of water and urinating regular, but on two different occasions she has had green diarrhea accidents and one small semi green-brown watery stool outside after the first incident. She seems active and happy, but still, I am not sure if this should be a concern for her or if its a combination of her puppy chow vs the aftermath of delivery or too much taking care of her pups business. Occasional diarrhea the first week after delivering pups is common. Most of the time it will clear up on its own. You can give her a couple of spoons full of pure canned pumpkin with a tiny bit of corn syrup mixed in. If the diarrhea persists then I really advise you take her to the vet to get her stool checked. Coccidia outbreaks are fairly common in some females after they have had pups. Coccidia has to be treated with albon and coccidia can also be passed to the puppies. |
I just read through this thread & it's just the sweetest way I can imagine to start my day! Little Ollie is a cutie & a mystery. I'd have a hard time separating the mother from the pup since there's only one pup. Besides, everyone here at YT wants to watch Ollie grow up & see what kind of little lady she becomes! Since we never really were given any details about what took place.....there were apparently 3 little puppies on the 8th and the vet said there would be no problems with natural birth".....then on the 11th, 3 days later, she has one HUGE puppy.....and we are given that "we had a hard time in the beginning,....", I wonder if this girl was attended by a vet or did she deliver at home, by herself....and what happened to the other 2 puppies.....I would suggest, with no more information or details we have been given, you have the dog seen by a vet ASAP....if there are placentas or dead pups still inside her, you have a MAJOR problem brewing.....GREEN DIARRHEA is of concern, at least to me......but being a CVICU RN, I tend to be cautious..... |
Details: She delivered around 5am that day and was immediately attended to by a vet. Her other two were much smaller in size and stillborn. (I blame myself because I felt less fetal movement on the 10th and regret not taking her to the vet that evening but assumed I was incorrect.) He did check to make sure there was no placenta retention and was given oxytocin to pass the remaining fluid. She was sent home with her pup and calcium tablet supplements that evening. Current state: She is much better today and has not had a problem with her stools so far and appreciate the feedback. Since we were not aware she was pregnant until the end, she was not on puppy chow so I wonder if a rapid change in diet in combination with her other changes was a factor at all. The pup continues to gain weight at 1lb 7oz today. We are due back in the clinic next week for them both to have a deworming. He said he would do the initial deworming in clinic and send the rest home for us to administer. Should there be anything else I should keep an eye out for between now and next week? Thanks again! |

With the baby going to relatives, or keeping it yourselves, you will easily be able to keep up with her! |
Is there a reason you are feeding her puppy chow? It isn't very high in nutrition. |
