Yorkie lady Just a reminder...LOOSE MY NUMBER..I never want to hear from you again. |

The average person asking for help has no way to differentiate between those with real knowledge and experience, and those who just talk like they have it. BTW that is just my humble opinion, I am definitely not a breeder. But I have a huge amount of respect for those of you who are, and are trying to do it the right way. The fact that you offer your help to people on YT is amazingly generous and very commendable. Kudos to you all! |
For our large breed, rarely are two adult males allowed free un attended roam of the house, and most particularly not when females are in heat. There if your only choice is in home, separate floors and crates for every-one. Some breeders build large wrap around porches - weather protected and that can work well for the adult dogs. Puppies and nursing moms are house indoors and then in a separate secure room. If you have the space we like large fenced exercise areas, and most performance breeders have their equipment ready to go in that space. It is important with my breed as with Yorkies that socialization starts early and well actually never really stops over the lifetime of the dog. So easy access to the house is key for many practical reasons. We do not have many large scale breeders, so few have an actual separate kennel. Some convert a garage, some take a portion of their barn to convert. Many solutions. One of my mentors has 8 BRT's and that is a whole lot of Care! She also has help, but still her life is mainly devoted to taking care of the dogs. Training, showing, grooming them et al. Personally I'd love to have the space and (the money) to have a great room I think you call it in the States - with a separate entrance to the backyard and the runs. On entry I'd like to have a fancy foot bath thing, with a floor blow dryer, to get those dirty feet clean when then come in!. The great room will be for the dogs and would be off the kitchen so even if they are in their crates they are part of the bustle of the house. Of course a separate grooming would be nice too! Oh yes our crates have padded beds, with sturdy washable covers - so no wire on feet! |
AuntieLaurie - Just a thought for consideration Right now you are in the process of grieving. Most experts say do not make any major decisions during this time frame. So give yourself some time, there is no hurry to make up your mind, today or even next week. I do hope you stick around, if only to do some reading here. |

It appears to me that you actually didn't read the OP's whole and quite detailed post, but just "saw" outside kennel and equated that with some-one who is not "doing" things right, and jumped on that. Did you actually miss the fact that the kennel is heat and a/c'd with protected run areas? Did you miss the fact of the time and expense this breeder went to to save a puppy ? Did you miss the fact that she said she did a whole lot of health testing? It is obvious to me, you did not or were not able to bring into a contextual context the whole of the OP's post; including but not limited to the fact she was grieving the loss of her puppies! When some-one comes here for help and especially help with a specific issue, step back please and let the more experienced folks help. |

The point is and remains you did not answer any of her questions in her original posting - for how could you? You don't have the knowledge. My point is. If you don't know the answer to the question asked - why answer? What she responded to YorkieMom1 I don't know. But I do know she was upset and grieving her loss - and in that situation sometimes we re-act in a way we wouldn't in a calm situation. |
Im sorry for the loss of the pups. Ive been through this before with a kitten litter. I did everything I could but I couldnt save them. I believe when you cant save them there is most likely something health wise going on with them. I hope you dont blame yourself it sounds like you did everything you could do. I wouldnt give up on breeding just yet right now while you are understanable emotional. |

Just because someone has a kennel doesnt mean they are unreputable breeder but some that do have them have way more dogs than could get individual attention and socialization. I would be very cautious of buying from a breeder with a kennel but if I havent personally seen it than I dont know |
IMHO: The kennel issue should not have even been brought up in this thread, as it had nothing to do with a grieving breeder asking other BREEDERS for help in dealing with losing puppies. I also feel that when Admin deletes a post, it is not appropriate to further discuss that post just because you saw it before it was deleted. If that is not in the YT rules, it should be! It only serves to further stir up negative stuff, and point fingers. |
It keeps being brought up here thatt only breeders should post here and I think that is really unfair. No where in the rules does it say only breeders can respond to breeder threads. Also there are other sections like training that other people respond to that arent trainers. |
Loosing puppies Thank you for that Yorkie Lady. To those that seem to think people with a kennel are breeding tons of dogs, you could be right. That's why you visit the breeder and see her set up. I don't even have my dogs sleep in my kennel..it's for there safety when we are out for a few hours. It is indoor and out door with a very nice covering to keep them dry.Go look at my yorkies and kennel it's on facebook YORKIES IN THE MEADOWS. I have lots of pictures...not lots of dogs. We have had 5 breedings in the last 4 years. I know there are a ton of bad breeders out there. I have met a few...you know that's one reason I wanted to breed, to be a respectable breeder with healthy nice puppies.I don't make money, how could anyone who breeds and does it right? It is very costly.I use to own a daycare and took classes in early childhood education and extra classes every year for twenty years. The money I made I put back into my daycare. It was wonderful, better than most daycare centers by far. That's what I'm doing with my breeding business. Trying to make it the best I can. You can't judge anyone if you don't have the facts. I'm not even close to being anything but a small time breeder who dearly loves yorkies. I just happen to want the best for them so we had a kennel built. Anymore questions??? BTW I have seen many breeders who stack cadge upon cadge of yorkies and the ones that won't even let you in there house, the ones that have to meet you somewhere for whatever reason. So tell me what kind of breeder would you buy a yorkie from?? |

I also agree that everybody should be permitted to post in every section on this forum. No segregation is needed. We are all here because we love Yorkies, and want to learn and share about them. However, it would be nice if people would not speak as if they are an expert when they offer an opinion not based on facts and experience. |
I didnt see her say she was an expert. She gave an opinion this is a forum full of opinions. People give opinions all the time in the sick and injured and they arent vets or vet techs just pet owners. Same in the training section regular people posting opinions not trainers |
Opinions are one thing we all have them, just like eyes n ears. I did not personally say no one but breeders should respond to a post. I did say if you do not know the answer to the specific question asked, well let others respond who do. and don't respond off topic and with judgement throughout. |
