I feel for your decision. Having raised, loved, treated, fought to get her and had dreams for your girl and your program it would be such a hard decision to make.
Now Im going to mention something that isnt going to be popular but Ill say it anyway.
If you decided to part with your baby would you spay her first? If not then I wouldnt even read further.
But if this is what you would do before she was to go to her new home. Why not give it a bit more time and then try for babies? If you havent the time and work outside the home then this really wouldnt be an option, but if you planned to spay her before her being released, why not try for babies once? If she has trouble and needs a C section then she can be spayed during the procedure.
If its a health concern over her carrying the babies then I wouldnt even consider it but if its a matter of the delivery only and you were going to spay her then this is an option. But it certainly would be a 24-7 call hour at the end of pregnancy.
Just a thought, please no hate mail, Im still reading from 2004...

I understand why you ask this. It's a legitmate question. But here's where I'm coming from. I know that she is not going to be a permanent fixture in my breeding program based on her structure and what I prefer. So, if I breed her and let her have a litter of puppies and then spay her. The only benefit I would see is that I would get money for the puppies she produced. I am more concered about getting her into a new home as soon as possible so she can start bonding with her new family, than I am concerned about having a litter of puppies out of her.

It's nice knowing that there are breeders out there who put the needs of their babies ahead of their own. I just saw Liberty's video clip on your website and she looks like such a sweetheart. I'm so sorry that you are faced with such a difficult decision.

I had the MOST wonderful call tonight. A few years ago I bought a little female from Pat and named her Primrose, call name Prim. She ended up being somewhat the same build as Irene describes so I decided to let her go. Good lord, I let her go all the way to SC to live with a young woman who was disabled with fibroneuralgia, multiple injuries suffered as a competetitive gymnast and uses either a wheelchair or a walker. She does have multiple problems but even before Prim went to her house, she had ordered a pocket for her to stay in when in the w/c and a special sling for the walker.
Well, Jadon called and said she wanted me to know that Prim had saved her life 3-4 times. Seems she sleep-walks and has been in some dangerous situations while asleep. Prim senses when she has stopped for too long and barks, jumps and HISSES to awaken her. Once was at the top of the stairs...
Stories like this make me know 110% for sure that re-homing these babies is the right thing to do. Another of mine is a seeing eye dog for a nearly blind dog..They just never cease to amaze me..There are more stories like this from every breeder..

Thank you so much for the kind words. But I couldn't imagine doing things differently. I can see why others may breed her since she will have surgery anyway. She is a sweet sweet girl! She's like a little doe they way she prances around. I have a family in mind for her that will be perfect. So well see.

What an awesome story, thank you for sharing Rini! I know that once I get my breeding program going, rehoming dogs is going to be one of the toughest things fo rme to do but as I read these stories on here I know that I will somehow find the strength to do it because it might not be what is best for me, but it will be what is best for them!
