Vet misreads ultrasound - lose 2 puppies

Absolutely true! So when you go in there, you need to know enough and have the intestinal fortitude to know what you want done and insist they do it.....of course it helps I have a medical background and know a little about what is going on!.....I am soooo fortunate to have a vet that communicates with me clearly and we often have a two way conversation....I say what I want, she explaines why she does it another way, and if I like that, I will go along with what she says....of course, she is brilliant and knows her stuff, so I trust her....but she never gets head strong or intimidated with me and my directness and my suggestions or requests.....I love my vet....Dr.Julie Wickle, DVM extraordinaire!!!!!

I'm so glad you have a competent vet and one you can trust. I think you set a wonderful example of things a breeder should do, such as taking continuing classes that are offered and being able to know enough to really be able to communicate with your vet. Before undergoing a procedure, if I don't understand something (I have no medical background like you) I ask every question I can think of and don’t stop till I clearly understand. As you say, you have to have the "intestinal fortitude" to speak up!

I always have & always will have my girls x-rayed about a week before they are due for the peace of mind of knowing (or at least having a very good idea) of how many pups to expect and/or having a good idea whether to expect any possible problems with the whelp. Even x-rays done in that last week of pregnancy are not always 100% accurate, but still they are extremely helpful in my opinion. I've had ultrasounds done before in about the 3rd or 4th week before, but only to confirm pregnancy when I just "had to know". Not anymore......I've learned to be patient.
