? Can you point out the negative feedback so I can take a look? Because I'm seeing absolutely nothing but helpful, thoughtful, and meaningful posts that are trying to encourage quality, excellence, care, and ideas on how to properly get there. If it were me, I couldn't ask for more.If you're wanting to set up a quality 'kennel' (which is how I interpreted your post), I feel the advice is spot on. Now, if you were trying to set up a puppy mill or a money-making breeding program, then I could understand how the advice would feel off. Quote:

| As for a "set up" the breeder of my pup had her spare bedroom set up with a twin bed for her to sleep in, the whelping box (which was a kiddie pool lined with a old comforter) some food and some puppy pads, and blocked off with a baby gate that mama dog could easily jump over to get in and out as needed. They stayed there until about 5 weeks old then moved to the baby gated kitchen where they had potty stations at either end, scattered beds and toys. There they were able to play and see and get used to noises and people all over and to be handled and loved on constantly. We would take the pups outside to the fenced in yard to get them used to grass and other textures and sights, sounds, and smells. The pups were played with often and loved immensely. I could not fathom not being with the pups- anything could happen SOOOO quickly, they need so much attention. Someone was always at the house with the pups. If the breeder and her family couldn't be there, I was (they are my neighbors.) The pups should also stay with their mother and litter mates until they are at least 12 weeks old, 14 would be better still. This is all I can think of at the moment for her "set up." I would definitely NOT have pups in another building, though. |
