Searching for Parti Yorkie & Questions About Yorkies! I am new to this forum, and I am not even sure if I am posting this in the right place... I currently am searching for another dog, and I am considering the parti-colored Yorkshire Terrier. I guess to start with I am wondering if someone on here could give me more information regarding them. I understand that they are not an acceptable color for AKC conformation shows, but they can be registered with AKC... Is this correct? What is the difference between the Biewer Yorkie and the "Parti" Yorkie? Also, this is a general question about Yorkies, I have heard that they can be aggressive with other dogs and difficult to housebreak. Is this true? I do own another dog, a 4 year old Collie. She was raised with small animals and is excellent with them, so I don't think having a little brother or sister would be a problem. I am considering the Yorkie, because I am finishing college within the next year, and I am not sure I want to have another somewhat large dog. My current dog also sheds quite a bit as it is, and I am hesitant to take on another dog that might shed as much as her. Also, if anyone knows of any breeders in the South that might have parti Yorkies, please let me know. I think my main interest in this color is just personal interest and maybe it reminds me of a Collie!

Welcome! You can find the answers to some of your questions in the library. Any toy breed can be aggressive, but I think that has more to do with individual personality and training. As for potty training, they are not like most dogs. Yorkies are just plain different. I have had several different toy breeds and a large dog over the years and they are just different. There are many that describe their personality as being "more child like". They are very social animals and do not enjoy being left alone for long periods of time, nor should they ever be left unattended in a backyard, fenced or not. There are many stories on the forum of hawks swooping and trying to make off with a small yorkie. You may wish to do some research to decide if this is truely the type of small dog that would fit into your lifestyle. You can find alot of information about the breed itself in the library here.

Thank you for responding to me. :-) Can you tell me where to find the library section? Is that within the discussion forums? I am definitely interested in learning more about the Yorkies. My current dog became best friends with a male that my mother had. She absolutely adored him, and they hung out constantly. Also, whatever dog I got would be an indoor, house dog. Even though I have a big dog, she is not kept outside. Collies are also a sensitive breed, and they need to be around their people. I also have heard horror stories about Yorkies and other predatory animals; my grandma has an older one that was picked up by a hawk as a baby when she was her breeder's/previous owner's house! Fortunately, the hawk dropped her, and she became my grandma's very much loved pet.
