| Litter size variation question I am just wanting to ask a question to experienced, seasoned breeders. If a Yorkie female whelps one puppy the first litter can she whelp more than one one the second, forward. She comes for a litter of 4, and her litter mate (sister) whelps litters of 4. She has only had 1 litter and it was only one puppy. I just want to get opinions to see if the chance of her having more later is [possible. I appreciate all your help. thank you. Wpyorkie. |

| Female determines the size of a litter....male determines the sex of the babies. |

| I'm aware that the male determines the sex of the baby and the female the size of the litter. If you read my post, that was not my question. |

| I have a female that had a singelton her 1st litter, 2 pups her 2nd , then 4 pups her 3rd litter, so yes it is possible for her to have more. 2 different sires.

| Fantastic! Thank you so much for your input! That's exactly what I was inquiring about. And you answered my next question about the sires. Again, thank you. |

| Each heat is different and timing of mating could have affected litter size. I would try a different protocol next time around, perhaps start the mating a couple days earlier and finish it a couple days later than normal protocol. If second time around the litter is a singleton again i would definitely spay and move on. XOXO

| Aah okay, I'll definitely do . It did cross my mind that perhaps it was the timing that I bred her in. thank you for the suggestion. |
