| Going away for Easter -- too close to due date? Hi! Our girl is due around April 19th. My wife and I are thinking about going away for Easter the weekend of April 7-8. Question -- is that's too close to her due date to be leaving her with friends? Please advise on your opinions as this is our first time breeding. We are certainly open to postponing if that is the right thing to do. Thanks! |

| What about complications after the whelp? Shouldn't you be there for her and her babies if anything were to happen?

My Tiny Treasures Donating Member | I wouldn't go. When I have babies on the way..my whole life goes on HOLD and I eat, sleep, and breathe..nothing but the expecting mommy. Two years ago I spent Thanksgiving day home..alone, with a mommy that was due. She, of course, didn't have them for 2 more days, but I made the decision to put her in the position of being pregnant so I feel its up to me to be with her 110% of the whole way |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | YES, that is what WE do.. I have missed, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and MANY holidays, because I had a pregnant girl, This year I had to cancel a very well diserved vacation to Hawaii with my hubby due to an unexpected litter, and you know the BEST part of breeding, once they are born, YOU will work double and wish your day was longer...I am getting a litter of 6 ready to go home the weekend after Easter, they are really ready easter weekend but I won't let them go until the weekend after so my pups don't go thru the stress of a holiday in a new home with lots of people. that is what WE do... hugs, |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I agree with the rest of them...............any time is to close to the time once they are pregnant. Granted, your girl will probably not have her puppies that soon.........but she could. Or there are a multitude of other pre-whelp emergencies that could happen. Even if I was (which I wouldn't except under dire circumstances) to go somewhere for even a short period of time, my girl would not go to someone.............that someone would be coming to her.

| Not only did I not leave Sadie while she was pregnant , I slept by the whelping box until the pups were old enough to go into an ex-pen. We give up a lot for our little fur kids
